I was watching the other day a video asking people to build the best XI between 2012 and 2021 Italy teams. People asked picked Barella over Marchisio.

And the comments were wild. It felt like the only no contest option out of the lot, yet... it was the only thing that was commented on. Bunch of gobbi were upset at this and there was pretty much no one backing Barella there. It was like 200 comments total, 185 on why Barella over Marchisio (either laughing at the choice, or sort of mesmerized) and maybe 2 saying how Barella > Marchisio and the rest were random.

I mean, do gobbi really feel this way? And don't neutrals see how amazing Barella is?

Maybe the channel was from a gobbo cunt, it was Tik Tok so it just randomly appearwd and I didn't pay more attention to it.

But wow... And ironically they left out Spinazzola and had Emerson as the LB choice, meaning they just picked the finalist lineup coz I think Spina still played more minutes than Emerson in the tournament.

You should have seen Milanisti comments when Mancini was starting Barella over Tonali. Or maybe i should show you a Milanista post who considers Barella a "problem" for Italian Calcio. :D

not sure putting here better or retro calcio thread but

Well, I played for Barcelona, which was amazing. I'd probably go Inter Milan, which sounds a bit weird, but the reason is that I nearly did and I was quite excited about playing in Serie A because that was the big league of the day really. It was like the Premier League is now, or La Liga was for a while.

I met Trapattoni in Germany, a secret meeting because Terry Venables had been fired at Barcelona and it was halfway through that season and I was still playing okay and scoring goals. They came to us and we thought it might be quite interesting because obviously I didn't know what the future would hold. But Barcelona wouldn't sell me at that point. So it didn't actually happen.

What happened then was they'd already got Andreas Brehme, who sadly died the other day. I knew Andy Brehme really was so RIP. He was an unbelievably brilliant footballer and a lovely man. He'll be missed, that’s terrible news.

So he played with Lothar Matthaus and you were allowed three foreign players in Serie A back then and they went for me, but they couldn't get me, and they ended up signing Klinsmann. I think they definitely won a couple of Serie A’s and I didn’t!

what if we had Lineker instead of Klinsmann, would it be better or worse?

Yeah he did mention this before but I thought it was the Scudetto season when we got Ramon Diaz (legendary River Plate manager) instead.

Due to the foreigners limitations back then there were a ton of "what if" transfers. Even ones that appear unimaginable.

Oleg Blokhin for example ended up at a minnow club in Cyprus that was mostly relegated each time they played in top flight (who got Russian takeover recently and won the league last season).
Granted he was 37, but players from beyond the Iron Curtain rarely played in central or western Europe at the time and settled for either left leaning clubs in Europe or some random teams that no one outside their village had heard of.

Blokhin was a Ballon d'Or winner. Due to that Cyprus experience, he gained his manager debut as a coach at some clubs in Greece.
