Hello friends, I want to take benefit of the advantages of our forum, the fact that we are all from different countries, in connection with the war in Ukraine has become relevant question - how much is the cost of living in other countries? (most interested in Croatia and Ireland), are interested in such parameters:
Rent 3 room apartment + utilities =
Food =
Health insurance =
Private kindergarten =
Buying clothes on average =
Haircut and other expenses for the look =
Sports activities on average =
Additional children's activities(Karate etc...) for children on average =
Internet and mobile phone services =
Petrol price =
Please write costs one person per month, I understand that it all depends on the city in which you live, so specify the city.
In Ukraine, I spend approximately $1600 for a family with two kids without rent.

Wow I thought Ukraine is a cheap country. I don't know maybe it's considered cheap in Europe?

If I lived on my own it would be much cheaper of course, children are expensive)
Food = 180$
Health insurance = 20$
Buying clothes on average = 60$
Haircut and other expenses for the look = 20$
Sports activities on average = 50$
Internet and mobile phone services = 10$
Car service & Petrol = 120$
For $500 it is quite possible to live in Ukraine.
I also forgot the utilities for another $100, so for 600 is quite possible

Ireland is pretty insane as well. Its going through a bit of a rent and housing crises. It may be better out in the more remote areas, you couldn't dream of Dublin, Galway or Cork. That would be far and away the biggest hurdle. For a family of 4, I'd imagine probably at least €1000 a month. Some of my southerner brothers can advise better.

@Sawyer @Harpsabu Thanks for the answers Irish ) As far as I understand Northern Ireland is more expensive than Ireland and has a worse climate is it true?
@Harpsabu What countryside would you recommend that you yourself would like to live in if not in a big city?

Are you trying to get a good old Catholic v Protestant 70s you stay on your side of the bridge war going here? hahaha.

I believe Ireland is more expensive than Northern Ireland? I can't confirm this though, I just remember going to Dublin for Ireland v England six nations when the Euro was just released and a paper cost me €2 and a breakfast cost me €15.. Ireland is beautiful but you also get beautiful parts of Northern Ireland, climate probably the same no?

I would happily live in Ireland, United Ireland please.

So I live in Tyrone, its really nice IMO, lots of nice countryside.
You'd get a nice enough 3 bed house + utilities probably for £1000 a month.
Hair cut, about £12 a haircut.
Shopping an odd one yeah, but it can be cheap. You could go somewhere like primark where clothes are very cheap.
Kids I don't know. You could send them to a gaa club which is like 30quid a year.
Sawyers stuff is pretty accurate for prices as well.

Depends what you work as, but there are some meat factories around mid ulster that are crying out for staff, can be tough enough work, but would get you probably around £1500 a month or so depending on role. Could be a job as you get established just.

I live in Knin, it is a small city in southern part of Croatia (Dalmatian hinterland), mind you i still live with my parents coz its more acceptable for me and my wallet like that :D, id rather give them rent money then pay someone else, i could probably rent some place, and live alone just fine with my wage (750 €)
Where i live you could probably find some nice place to rent for 100-150 € a month and it's at least 100€ more for utilities, for food probably around 150€ a month. Haircut is 5-6 € for men, for women more expensive. Health insurance is free if you work, there is additional health insurance that you pay 10€ a month and it covers almost everything. I dont spend that much on clothes rly, maybe 50 € every few months. Gym is 40€ for 2 month. Gas is around 1.8 € per litre. I pay for mobile services around 15€ a month (free calls, messages, 40 gigs of internet), flat net for home + phone + TV program with bunch of programs is around 50 €. Dont have children so dont know how much kindergarten costs or other activities for children. If i had to recommend part of Croatia where ppl live best it would probably be central part, Zagreb and area that surrounds it. Easier to find job and wage is bigger then in other parts of Croatia. Southern lives of tourist and tourism and eastern part is a hellhole, lot of people left east of Croatia looking for a better life.

How about Croatia, what are your numbers? and which region of Croatia can you recommend?
Rent 3 room apartment + utilities = 500€ + 150-200€ (U)
Food =200-250€
Health insurance =Basic insurance paid from salary before you get it, additional cost 10€
Private kindergarten = Don't have kids but I think around 150-200€
Buying clothes on average = I buy only on Inter webshop :D just kidding, but I don't buy clothes in Croatia usually order online, better and practical.
Haircut and other expenses for the look = haircut 8€, but in some barber shops it can go up to 20€
Sports activities on average = Gym monthly 40€
Additional children's activities(Karate etc...) for children on average = No clue
Internet and mobile phone services = Internet and TV (with Serie A) 40€, phone 20€
Petrol price = 1.7€/pL (Petrol), 1,8€/pL (diesel)

Reccomendation of places in Croatia: Zagreb, Rijeka, Samobor.

I'd recommend Rijeka, even tho it's actually a seaside city...on a hillside. But as far as I know, the prices aren't as high as Zagreb (or God forbid, Ljubljana in Slovenia).

@brakbrak this thread is depressing lmao
Lmaoooo yea, I'm privileged enough to have a paid off condo in Toronto. Otherwise with how things are right now, I'd be depressed af lol

Imagine being able to rent a nice 3 bedroom house for 1500cad like Harpsabu mentioned?

In case people are curious, a 3 bedroom 1500-1800sqft townhouse 1h away from downtown Toronto costs about $1.3m CAD, same house was 700k in 2019

There is nothing to do in Canada, it seems to be a country rich in resources, oil, gas, etc., but it is very hard to live if you do not have your own property, although Canada is the most Ukrainian country except Ukraine, but I do not want to go there) very high taxes.

@Harpsabu @Sawyer Is it true that there are no water charges in Ireland? That the creator of Guinness beer bought this from the state and exempted all Irishmen from paying for water? )
