This is definitely the best mercato so far in a very long long time. However, this is made possible because of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The 06/07 transfer mercato is definitely one of the best as well. Dacourt and Maxwell for free, Vieira for 9.5, Maicon for 7, Grosso 5.5, Zlatan 24.8. Sold Veron, Martins for 15, Pizarro. We only spent 24 mil on the mercato and look at the amazing results

4 of the new signings went straight into first team and we manage to achieve 17 consecutive wins (well people will argue Juve is not there). We manage to offload a lot useless players and made profits on Maxwell and Grosso in the years after that. Not to mention the Zlatan mega sale. Has to be one of the best mercato as well.

This year's mercato has nothing to do with Zlatan. Lucio, Milito and Motta were already bought before Zlatan left. We were already going to buy a trequarista but it happened in the end because Sneijder didnt know what he wanted. Eto'o was the only one who came because Zlatan left, and that he was included in the same deal was great because it saved us money, time and we got a world class striker to replace the other.

As good as this mercato can be, I dont think it will be compared with 06-07 mercato. That was a legendary one. We got Zlatan really cheap, and we got Maicon for free!!!. Add to that we got Crespo for free as well (Chelsea's agreeing his loan).

The only real draw back was Vieira.

But still, our best mercato of the past two decades.

Shahz, right now, you're comparing those mercatos from the point of view "how they turned out to be" result wise. How it is fair to do it now with this mercato, when there is only 3 games played ?

If we will win CL, Serie A, CI, with a lot of help of all of our new aquisitians, you will still say that 06-07 mercato is better?

You're doing now, what I was bashed for in other thread, where in fact I did something else.

For me, the only valid comparison we can have right now, is from the economic point of view, and pottential point of view.

For example, the difference is very simple:

Result wise(NOW) - Zlatan incredible deal, profit at least 4x
Pottential wise(BACK THEN) - 75% of the forum members bashing our management for getting him

Lets not forget, Zlatan was playing shit in his last season at Juve, he was overweight, and like I've said grand majority of members here, including you, were cursing this day we got him, not only because of the fact he played for Juve, but because of the fact people didn't see great player in him.

If we would go player by player, we would find other differences, although I don't deny it was a very good mercato for us. All the deals were good economicaly, and also we got some money in for other players too.

ps. Maicon was bought for 7 mln, not for free.

How about this year Hassan ? :)

I can't argue against that, this year is very good so far and I hope that you will be right, we will see it after season.

Luca, you're absolutely right. I also thought about it the other day and that evaluation for transfer need to be done twice. One for the potential thing that you've mentioned and one on the how-things-turn-out.

That said, the transfer in 06/07 didn't have huge potential at all. Maicon was unknown, Maxwell were suffering from a series of injuries with Ajax and Zlatan had a terrible season with Juve in 05/06, etc etc. Heck, the best deal of that summer was thought to be the coup of Fabio Grosso! But needless to say, like Shahz said, on the how-things-turn-out evaluation, that transfer mercato is legendary and laid down the foundation of this current Inter dynasty.

On 08/09 mercato, it definitely has the potential to be better than the 06/07 one. But obviously it's too early to give it a second evaluation. Let's hope that come the end of the season, we can give it a better rating that 06/07's.

Me. :megusta:

At the age of 5, 6 I was a promising youngster, usable for every position and even as a defender I made my goals.

Alcohol and women let my end my career after just two seasons. But should Inter ever need me: I'm ready to help the team I admire out.

Still a better goal scoring story than Rocchi

Are you 30+ yet?

You might wanna enrol yourself to Inter's youth programme.
