System shortcoming is the defensive display.

We take risks in attack, we play with lines high and there's big distance between defence and midfield. This helps us create chances in attack but it comes at a cost. It leaves our defenders exposed and unprotected to counter attacks and we basically count on opponents fuck ups or heroic last min clearances from our defenders or GK saves to get away with it. But when our opponent has the quality to make a decent counter attack it's very easy for them to create a clear cut chance. Then they usually score at their first chance and we wonder how that was possible. We blame it on bad luck but it happens way too often to consider it just a bad day. We blame it on GK for conceding every shot on target. We blame it on cbs individual mistakes. But the reality is it's a collective problem. A system problem.

As for our wastefulness in attack, it's a result of many factors. Our forwards lack the quality to finish our chances on a consistent basis. Lautaro is hot and cold many times during the season, Dzeko can only last for 6 months, Lukaku only contributes to build up play and Correa doesn't bring anything when he isn't injured. But we also lack the player who will create on his own and bring a forward in an advantageous position at opponents box. While our passing game is pretty good we lack the final pass in the attacking third. So we resort either to crosses from midfielders and wingbacks or shots from outside the box. But this kind of chances are harder to score. So while stats look good on paper in reality we create chances but we don't create clear cut chances.

We have only two ways to move forward. Either we bring the necessary quality in attack to outscore the opponent or we tighten up defence hoping attack will bring the one goal we need to win the game. Problem is first needs a lot of money while second needs a new coach and a new system with all the risks that entails.
We conceded one goal from open play. That penalty was fumbling by Dumfries, not our system collapsing.

This Spezia game cannot be an example of our system not working, I was talking about that. We dominated them completely. One mistake by the defender doesn't prove the system is not working. If our strikers or players cannot score from all that domination we had, it's more of a proof that they just cannot deliver, not that coach isn't putting them in a position to succeed.

And I want Inzaghi out too, but not because his system doesn't work. But because mentally he's not tough enough and cannot draw the needed results. Inzaghi cannot score the goals but he's surely putting players in a position to score those goals.

Inter's main problem is inconsistency and neither the players nor Inzaghi are solely the blame for it. At the first part of the season people were complaining that Inzaghi's Inter can only beat small teams and suck at big matches. Then the table has turned and people were pissed at the amount of points Inzaghi's Inter were throwing away against small teams while keeping a good record in big matches.

You could argue Inzaghi's system is THE issue, but if it is then why our results are so different against better or worse teams? Inter conceded 2 goals against Spezia but kept a clean sheet against Napoli. Why this "leaking system" can keep a clean sheet against the best offence in the league while conceding goals against worse attacks? There is no linear way to analyze this thing. It's a collective issue.

Our home record is the best in Serie A (2nd best if Napoli wins today). Goals are 27-6.

Away record is only 7th best with goals 20-24. This massive difference cannot be attributed to faults in our system. It's some mental issue, we lack the ability to pull the best out of our players at away from home. Lack of that fine execution in a more hostile environment or something. Lack of keeping our game without faltering when home team is coming to us (and this does not apply to Spezia game obviously).

While his tactical competence cannot be questioned it is Inzaghi‘s management skills that are putting him in jeopardy. Ironically it was this exact trait that players praised him for at the beginning of his stint. I remember Bastoni hailing Inzaghi for bringing back „fun“ to the team and Dzeko hailing him for acting like the „big brother“ in the whole environment.

When looking at the current situation it is exactly this kind of management that comes back to bite us in the ass while we could definitely use some of the micro management provided by Conte.

- How can Lukaku not be the single designated penalty taker at a scoring rate of 16/16? I understand someone being second in the pecking order, but Lukaku has to be the first taker without any doubts.

- What is the captaining situation to begin with? I understand that Skriniar is out of order, but what is the hierarchy between Lautaro, Barella and Brozovic?

- Why do you have to give Handanovic playing time when there is clearly no injury problem thus instilling a new captain almost every game and switching the defensive communication and setup between two entirely different philosophies? (Onana and Handa are a completely different set of keepers)

- Why does D‘Ambrosio even play? Dude is done like a steak. Bellanova is one of the fastest players in the league and speed is one of the only traits we are missing. I won’t even bother to recall that we can play Dumfries or even Zanotti on the right.

- Why do we not see Asllani on the pitch when it’s clear that he is talented enough to give it a try?

- Why do the players need to be motivated for those small games when they didn’t need to less than two years ago? How could this get out of grip that blatantly?

Inzaghi has to understand that it takes balls and a leader first and foremost to overcome those situations. It is not Lukakus and Lautaros task to decide who takes the penalty on the pitch. It takes a HEAD of the coaching team to go for the decision. If he does not come to this conclusion Marotta has to do something in order to resolve the situation because we are running a huge risk at not reaching the champions league places.

Firstly, you have probably mistaken me for someone else.
Just bundling everyone together with one response.... It's a personnel issue because no manager alive can successfully implement a highline with this backline. A lot these goals and difficulties in transition can be addressed with an athletic (and competent) CB to quickly track back and cover gaps when possession is lost. Only other option is to play a low block and shield the defence but without an elite / efficient / consistent scorer this will not work either. The players are simply a bad match and we're a poorly put together team. Gosens is evidence of this. He doesn't fit this system or any that would involve him being on the ball for any length of time.

As for 4312 no plays that system and for good reason. We would concede less and score less with fewer chances created. Remember Mancini's Inter with +15 draws? Results would likely be similar.

I think the problem is more complex than just tweaking the formation or firing the coach. But certainly going forward, management, the coach and the players need to align better and share the same vision. I'd love to know the line of thinking behind the Gosens purchase.

So, Inzaghi doesn't have proper players for his system, but he continues insisting to use it. Isn't this a coach's fault?

If only a top 4 securees him his job, i want Inter to finish out of those spots. There is no way this guy should be the coach next season. Should have already been fired.

Also if losing top 4 means that chinese gonna finally sell than we should pray for that.

Unless missing on top 4 forces Suning to sell, that's a scenario we should avoid at all costs. It would lead to very dark times and not even the best coach in the world could save you.

Lautaro taking the penalty was hilarious. I’m pretty sure we all knew what was happening the second he was at the spot. They chose him over one of the worlds best penalty takers just to pad Lautaro goal numbers. That alone shows we paid Spezia little respect. That’s on the manager.

Don't have one.
While his tactical competence cannot be questioned
In what universe his tactical competence cannot be questioned. Go watch udinese game, where they had 5 on 2 counterattack. And i m choosing that moment cos we had numerous situations like that since he came. His tactical competence is zeman like in its naivety, and that's one of the most constant things about him.

Agree with everything else you wrote, but selling this man as some sort of tactically sound manager whose only problem is his man management is imo missing the whole picture. In fact, i m sure it's the other way around, his problem with motivating players stems exactly from the inability to put any sort of firm backbone into teams. By firm backbone, I mean fixing the leaking goals problem he had both with us and lazio and the fact you can set your watch for his team to have at least one major meltdown during the season.

And also speaking of tactics, it's always the same. I don't see any variations on the theme, we always play the same, in the same high rhythm which is pleasant on the eye but also what a lot of fans misinterpret as some sort of tactically sound approach, which as we saw during the whole course of the season it isn't.

The only true changes I see is the type of shit he does when he becomes ultra desperate like last night where dzeko, lautaro and lukaku were on the pitch at the same time. There is no changing formation even for a little bit, no moving the line deeper for longer periods of time, it's just same old shit every single time and when it works great, when it doesn't as a manager you just come out and say players have problems with mentality and call it a day.

Yeah, doesn't make any sense to hope missing the CL only because one wants Inzaghi out. Without CL we might still have Inzaghi, but what we do know is we will sell more starters and the team spirit might be a lot worse. These guys have tasted the "glory" of CL football, when it's taken from them, it might lead to situation where our players actually want out instead of owner/management pushing some of them out.

In a sense that COULD be a new start, but Zhangs up top, without intention and/or ability to invest, big fear is it would look very bad.

It's more the management's fault. They should done their homework on the system inzaghi plays and whether he is adjustable. If he isn't you can't sign players who doesn't fit his system.

If they can't do that then should have appointed a mou type who adjusts the system to the squad .

They went for a conte/pep where the players need to adjust to his system.

Tbh that was their plan A. Marotta's top target always was Allegri who has no clear system and just adjusts to his squads. But when he chose to go to Juve they hadn't done their homework and they had a very simplistic approach. Who's the most proven Serie A coach (we only look at Serie A) who plays with a back 3? Inzaghi. Let's go for him. But systems are a lot more than just formations.

They didn't do it properly with having no real alternative to alegri. Inzaghi and alegri are about as different as they come.
