Spezia had 3 chances last night. One hit the post, and the two goals. It's about time we stopped blaming it on bad luck and individual fuckups when it's a common occurrence in our away games. It's also a system problem.
But we have the same system with almost same players when Conte was here? For me, we leave huge gaps in midfield and when the ball is transitioned forward, all of our midfielders go there to find an position. We don't have a coverage of the defenders and we are really vulnerable to counters. But the mentality of the whole team is down as well. Against Monza we conceded after elementary cross in the penalty area.
I'm more and more convinced that Inzaghi used the inertia left by Conte last season, and now we see "his" Inter.

We have the same formations. The two systems are quite different. Conte played with a low defensive line, compact lines, counter-attacking football and he was very strict with players positions on the field. On the other hand, Inzaghi plays with high defensive line, a possesion based football and he gives freedom to his players. In terms of tactical setup the two systems are basically polar opposites.

Is he gone yet?

He is the definition of mediocrity. What did he actually achieve in his career that was supurb? Something that was above expectations? Nothing.

He hasn’t a clear vision and he hasn’t the ability to motivate or manage a team. Also isn’t willing to develop youth. Totally useless manager. Imo worse than the Spalletti’s or Pioli’s in this world.

We completely dominated them from the beginning to the end. Us conceding 2 goals was more of a miracle (for Spezia) than our system failing.

It was specifically individual fuckup by Acerbi to let them score the opening goal. 2-1 was the fuckup by Dumfries. What systemic issue we had there? We overrun them totally during the match, but our players just couldn't finish, including a fucking penalty.

Still I'm gonna say Inzaghi is not good enough for Inter. He lacks that something which pushes our players to win games week in week out. It's not the system but more of a mental thing. He's too much Lazio.

Dominating means shit if you can't convert your chances. It's not one time thing where you can blame it on bad luck or a miracle. It's a common occurence in second round. We dominate, we waste our chances and then we concede at opponent's first chance. When it happens so often it's a system shortcoming, not just a bad day.

So we lost 8 times by a miracle?

Miss chances = players drop the head and panic
Eventually concede first chance = players go into ultra panic mode.
Fail to win = "we are sorry. We gave our all. We will try make this right"

Rinse and repeat. He's got the players in loser mode. It's now acceptable to lose.

And system wise. 24 goals conceded away from home is all you need to know about his so called system. There is no defense for that (or inter away from home)

Stamina control is #1 coaching skill that wins a league. Which Inzaghi completely lacks. Let's say, you have 10 eggs for 10 days of omelettes; but if you swallow 2 at once then you starve the day after. That has happened with Inzaghi, not only at Inter, for 7 years straight. Such a common pattern.

Conte's "terror" football is how to win week in week out. Not "sexy" football bullshit. Players aren't robot and can't run tirelessly for three races at the same time. Not that Inzaghi does not scream enough during the match (i.e. "mental" reasoning) or players don't convert their chances (i.e. "bad luck"); but our coach simply has no idea how to do a marathon. He should do well in another career path, such as national teams, probably.

System shortcoming is the defensive display.

We take risks in attack, we play with lines high and there's big distance between defence and midfield. This helps us create chances in attack but it comes at a cost. It leaves our defenders exposed and unprotected to counter attacks and we basically count on opponents fuck ups or heroic last min clearances from our defenders or GK saves to get away with it. But when our opponent has the quality to make a decent counter attack it's very easy for them to create a clear cut chance. Then they usually score at their first chance and we wonder how that was possible. We blame it on bad luck but it happens way too often to consider it just a bad day. We blame it on GK for conceding every shot on target. We blame it on cbs individual mistakes. But the reality is it's a collective problem. A system problem.

As for our wastefulness in attack, it's a result of many factors. Our forwards lack the quality to finish our chances on a consistent basis. Lautaro is hot and cold many times during the season, Dzeko can only last for 6 months, Lukaku only contributes to build up play and Correa doesn't bring anything when he isn't injured. But we also lack the player who will create on his own and bring a forward in an advantageous position at opponents box. While our passing game is pretty good we lack the final pass in the attacking third. So we resort either to crosses from midfielders and wingbacks or shots from outside the box. But this kind of chances are harder to score. So while stats look good on paper in reality we create chances but we don't create clear cut chances.

We have only two ways to move forward. Either we bring the necessary quality in attack to outscore the opponent or we tighten up defence hoping attack will bring the one goal we need to win the game. Problem is first needs a lot of money while second needs a new coach and a new system with all the risks that entails.

Don't have one.

Because the system represents both offense and defense, and not just concentrating on how shit our strikers are. In a different, more cohesive system, lukaku penalty goal would have been enough for us to win it last night. But for that to happen you have to have proper stability in the back and not let fuckin spezia caught you with your pants down not once but twice.

It is happen to not score, but we are leaking chances almost every game. Our players are shaky in crucial moments. If you want call it mentality issue, because with Conte we had some similar games indeed. But, we somehow were able to get the points (I recall one Sassuolo match). Now is the opposite. I get worried every time when the opposition comes closer to our penalty area, because we are conceding goal opportunities so easily. Every set piece is a small disaster for our defense as well.

So it's a personnel problem?

Imagine for a moment if, during Contes era, Kaku only managed 2 goals with 10 or so games to go? Do we still run away with the title? Conversely, give inzaghi Perishit and Hakimi for the WB positions. Give inzaghi prime brozo, Defry and motivated Skrinair and maybe we wouldn't be so vulnerable in defence.

I'd love to hear some of your solutions, I keep reading 343 and 433 but where are the wingers to execute? Coupled with the fact that we have a bunch of low IQ players, how will we implement these changes?

It's like the Juventus game, players don't execute/score, opposition is emboldened and goes all out to score.

We score first and second we win. Players need to convert. Kaku is on high wages, he should find away to feed off the scarps from our pitiful wingers and execute. Toro needs to score 100 penalties minimum in training or no one goes home. Our setpieces are dreadful and rarely dangerous.

There's definitely a fundamental coaching issue here but it's not like this roster is built to win the Scudetto.

It's also not built to lose 10 Serie A games.

Firstly, you have probably mistaken me for someone else. I never mentioned 3-4-3 and 4-3-3 as options. We have 0 wingers in the squad so we can't play these formations.

I made a detailed post about our issues and the two ways we can move forward so i won't repeat myself. I will only add few things.

Attack is always a personnel problem. A functioning system will take you to a point but it won't score a goal by itself. But that's where role of the coach starts. You need to use the system that gets the best out of your personnel. The "right" system is the one that gets you results. If it doesn't bring results then it's just an academic approach in a coaching course. If you don't have the right players for your system then you need to adjust to your players.

Defence isn't solely a personnel problem though, it's mostly about the system. Inter's away defensive record is 24 goals in 13 matches. This is Inter's worst record since 1947/48. Also Inter have the 4th worst away defensive record in the league. Only Salernitana, Cremonese and Bologna have done worse. I don't think anyone believes this is as good as Inter cbs can be. It's a collective problem. We can't go on like this.

The only other formation we could play is 4-3-1-2. Tbh i would be in favor of a switch. Not because i think it's a great fit for the squad. We lack the AM and midfield squad depth to make it work as it should. But when you're into crisis and you can't seem to find a way out of it you need to try something to get yourself out of it. Give a shock to the squad and surprise your opponents. As things stand everyone knows what to expect from Inter, from the starting lineup to the subs.

No one is asking from Inzaghi to win Scudetto. The squad isn't good enough to challenge this Napoli but it's certainly good enough to finish comfortably in top 4. But it's not unrealistic to expect from Inter coach to beat Monza, Empoli, Sampdoria, Bologna and Spezia. If we had normal results in second round we would have already secured second place (not even top 4) by March. Instead we're doing everything we can to make things complicated for us.
