I don't hate it, nor am I in some relevant way prejudiced against him. Top 4 and with some luck second round of CL imo would be nice. No embarassing defeats. Then he can start aiming higher in the 2nd season.

He'll probably have a weaker squad than Cont and less experience, but with better hair, so it evens out.

Welcome and good luck. Prove your critics wrong.

A nice article about our new allenatore.

Passion, loyalty, familiar tactics - what can Inter expect from Inzaghi?

Inter Milan did not think they would need to replace Antonio Conte this year, but in successor Simone Inzaghi, they hope to have found a natural heir.

Conte terminated his deal by mutual consent in May over frustration at Inter's plans to cut costs and sell key players due to financial problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was a big blow, coming days after Inter collected their first Serie A trophy in 11 years, and Inzaghi has now been tasked with keeping them at the summit of Italian football after joining from Lazio.

The manner of Inzaghi’s exit left a bitter taste for many Lazio fans, as it came almost immediately after he had agreed to renew his deal in Rome.

"I was disappointed on a personal level. He changed his mind from last night to this morning,” Lazio president Claudio Lotito told Calciomercato.com.

It was particularly hard to swallow as Inzaghi had achieved club great status during a 22-year spell at Lazio as a player, youth coach and senior boss.

The former striker won Serie A, three Coppa Italias, two Super Cups and the UEFA Super Cup during his playing days before moving into youth coaching and winning back-to-back Coppa Italias at Under-19 level.

After taking the first-team job permanently ahead of the 2016-17 season, he won two Italian Super Cups and one Coppa Italia and led Lazio to the Champions League last-16 this season as they returned to the competition after 13 years.

During Inzaghi’s time in charge, Lazio recorded their best-ever points total (78) and most victories in a season (24) in 2019-20, and their highest-scoring season in 2017-18 with 89 goals.

CLOSE BONDS

Inzaghi established a reputation for getting the best out of his players in Rome.

Goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha and defender Luiz Felipe went from youth prospects to important first-team players, while the likes of Felipe Caicedo and Patric recovered from difficult starts to become useful squad players thanks to Inzaghi’s patience and faith.

Ciro Immobile arrived at Lazio after two difficult years in Spain and Germany and went on to win Serie A top scorer twice and the European Golden Shoe in 2019-20.

The inconsistent Luis Alberto was transformed into one of Serie A’s finest playmakers, while Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s rapid rise has been aided by Inzaghi’s knowledge of how to best deploy the Serbian’s impressive arsenal of talents.

Inzaghi built a close group and developed strong personal relationships with his players.

“If I am the player I am today, it is largely thanks to your advice and trust,” Alberto wrote after the 45-year-old's departure was confirmed.

“Thank you for everything you taught me, there were difficult moments but you were always by my side,” Immobile said.

There was a flip side, however. Inzaghi’s loyalty to his most-trusted players occasionally stopped others from getting the opportunity to impress or improve.

Very few youth players have been promoted in recent years, leaving Lazio as the oldest team in Serie A, while some major signings like Denis Vavro and Valon Berisha were soon discarded after failing to make an impression in their first season.

CONTE COMPARISON

Some similarities between Inzaghi and Conte are hard to miss.

Both are restless, vocal characters on the touchline, and tactically, their philosophies are not far apart.

Like Conte, Inzaghi prefers a 3-5-2 formation and the Inter squad will not need to make any major adjustments to adopt his brand of football.

The big doubt that remains is the same one that led to Conte walking out – what will the Inter squad look like by next season?

As it stands, Inzaghi has all the resources needed to quickly get his methods across and begin to build relationships ahead of Inter's title defence.

But as rumours continue to circulate about which big-name players Inter might sell during the transfer window, the scale of the task facing Inzaghi is yet to be fully determined.

Lets see what kind of a team he will have. If Inter sells just Hakimi, I still expect us to be in a title race, if a solid player is bought for that position. If we sell 2 or more stars and bring in some free fucks, then I expect us to fight for the 7th spot. I voted no, cause I dont see us keeping star players and I dont see us buying anyone good. I also dont think Inzaghi is that good, but I will be very happy if he shows me otherwise.

Gamble.

Surprised the word isnt written even once so far in the thread. I think its what describes Inzaghi the best. We’ll never know what he will do, he came from a Lazio team who are almost the same for 5 years, to a big, demanding club and players who just won the Scudetto, will be able to contain the pressure?

For all the people doubting Inzaghi.

Who would you have preferred? (that are realistic, Allegri was never realistic considering the financial situation). Sarri? Gasperini(lol?), Spalletti again?

I would've had Sarri, because I think he's just a better manager than Inzaghi. Especially if our plan is to sell Hakimi, that's less reason to use 3-5-2 – Sarri could've easily used a diamond with LuLa up top. But Gasperini is not an option, and Inzaghi is still preferable to Spalletti and all the other rumored options.

Allegri all the way. Allegri never has any problems regarding our finance. He stayed even when Milan sold Ibra & Silva. Also, we do have the fund. We are paying more for Conte & Inzaghi (10.5m) than what Allegri is receiving at Juve (9m).

We fuckup with the timing, delaying Conte's meeting for no reason, approaching Allegri WAY TOO LATE when he has had Juve and Real's offers on the table.

I am Ok with Simone. I like what he did at Lazio and I believe it's time for him to take the next step. And I am glad Inter gave him the opportunity. We need to choose and trust also young coaches. Enough with the classical bullshit: at Inter is pressure, only experienced coaches can win and so on.
The fucking "pressure" my ass! Real, Barcelona, Bayern, Milan, Juventus all of them won and won big with coaches with no big experience prior. And don't tell me at these clubs is no pressure!

My frst choice would have been Sarri. But I can understand the judgement of Marotta. Sarri would be perfect for a team who start a new project. The man really knows how to build teams and he didn't ask for big transfer budgets. The only downturn, he is old. Actually is older than Ancelotti who seems he coach since an eternitiy.

With Conte left and Allegri went to juve, I don't think that we had any top options. You call it gamble, but that could be said for everyone else. For me Simone was the safest choice and I believe he will do fine.
