IMO his biggest achievement was implementing a winning mentality with Inter and getting the Scudetto. So many tried and failed before him and we're still reaping the benefits of that even now. Not to downplay it as I still love the man and would have him back but he hasnt done that much at Naples really, except tighten them up & remind them that they won the Scudetto previously - we could all see there was a better team in there and that Rudi Garcia would tank. When he took Inter to the Scudetto we hadnt done jack shit for YEARS!

Totally agree.

We have a better player on every position (apart from Buongiorno, he would have been great for us). With or without European competition, we should win the Scudetto over them. Simply no excuses.

Conte was the only one given a Scudetto worthy budget since Mourinho in 2008-9 and he came short in his first season and could have been worse if Covid didn't hit and 5 subs weren't allowed.

The mentality of the players changed under Conte. He got performances out of Ranocchia, Danilo, Moses, Young and elevated De Vrij, Broz, Perisic and Skriniar. Admittedly he lost Godin - who was still excellent for most of the games he played - but there was an obvious upturn in performances and mentality at the club over the 2 seasons IMO.
Fair point about the budget but then previous managers bought crap or had crap bought for them so money was wasted!

100% relevant

Lazio had one game a week and suddenly had to play three. They were on course to challenge for the Scucetto.

We also got lucky that Europe was playing played after end of season.
Five subs meant that we could cope with a tighter schedule.
Lazio had like 14 first team calibre players, Atalanta had 15, both us and Juventus had 18-20... it made all the difference in the world and came out of nowhere in the middle of the season.

Then covid itself was not kind on some teams but we were lucky to the extent that it was common to see views commenting that us having Chinese owners made us better equipped and prepared.

We also needed the break as our form wasn't great. And Juventus fielded a B team and lost 9 easy points so looking at the table now makes it appear closer than it was.

December 2019 to March 2020 in Serie A:
5 wins
5 draws
2 defeats (to Scudetto challengers Lazio and Juventus)

Also lost at home in February to Napoli for the Coppa and in December lost to Barcelona's heavily rotated side at home.

Last three games before the covid break:
Loss to Lazio
Loss to Napoli
Loss to Juventus
and iirc we had a postponed game with Sampdoria before Juventus so we had more days to prepare even in the midst of a health crisis.

Materazzi was in the squad, and there would have been one or two Italian internationals/nationals regularly playing all the way through 2010. It was never like Milan or Juventus but consistently someone was Italian.
