You guys pay too much attention on nationality issues. if a kid is born in France or grown up there from teenage years, he is French, period.
Nope.

If I'm born in Japan I'll never be Japanese unless I have ancestral roots from there. I could be born at sea, I'm still a product of my ancestors. If I'm born at sea, I'm no dolphin nor sailor.

Where you're born has nothing to do with what or who you are. That's completely random. Which is ironically the argument they use for anything else which is far from random but it's pretty much genetics and what we know about it.

Japan is a closed society, you can't compare it to France.

Whatever, it's just a discussion. No one asked for "purebreds" ( ) but making up excuses about people being part of a culture when they're obviously not is bordering hilarious.

You can be fully ingrained in a foreign society, either as an immigrant, a worker or a 2nd gen migrant, but you do not belong historically to that nation, no matter how much you want to convince people about it. Two separate things. No one said that inclusion should be based on an 100% cultural match. Someone mentioning that Giroud is the only properly French person isn't bias, it's just a semi-factual observation.

Moroccans need some composure. Other than that, they are playing outstandingly beautiful. And that's against France, the reigning world champions

Ethnicity =/= Nationality

Who defines the limits of the culture of a nation? "French" is such a broad umbrella -- even only from a historical-linguistic perspective there are many prevalent groups like Alsatians, Bretons, Occitans, Walloons etc. All regions have their own cultures or different religious practices.

The imperative is that people can essentially more or less choose their nationalities, although of course the overwhelming majority are born into theirs.

We should strive for a society where people can choose their own parents while we're at it.

Onto the game now, I like Morocco's attitude. France is allowing them chances but the Bleus have the ability to finish off the game, as long as they take their shot.

Again, you're mistaking nationality for ethnicity. I never made such an outrageous claim.

Let's put aside the overtly racist undertone of the propositions you've been putting forth. Consider Varane. His mother is 'proper' French being white and Western-Frankishly French and all. His father is of Martiniquais origin.

So, should we conclude that heritage only passes through the father and therefore Varane isn't French? Or should we say that if the pure Frenchness in the heritage isn't contained it's tainted Frenchness?

In either case, people loving to have sex and all, no single person's entire ancestry belongs to a single nationality. It just isn't the case. So nobody belongs in any nationality? But I thought it was the globalists who wished to do away with regional cultures in the name of cosmopolitanism?

Think of nationality as your name. You can change it should you wish to, most don't. You're born into one, which affects your world view, behavior, biases, culture, the food you like etc, but you can change it along with all those things.

What's truly cruel is telling someone who lives in a country that they aren't actually from that country.

Instead of talking about racism, how about we talk about sporting colonialism that "big" nations are very much in favor of and the sense of supremacy one must feel for representing France, England, Germany, Belgium etc rather than their ancestral home? Hm? How about we twist the narrative to what really is happening here? Because I don't think the athletes are really representative of how their own society views these people with the same lens if they're not top athletes...

I'm disappointed that Hakimi didn't have a good chance in the 2nd half. Feels like Morocco didn't try to utilize him at all.

It's the society's fault, dude. I have nothing against people deciding to represent whomever. I think most of them pick the team that'd help their careers the best.
