I actually think our squads pretty good. Southgate really needs to start at least 2 from Sancho, Grealish and Foden though. The midfield he plays is too safe and not good enough. Worked so far, but we haven't really played any decent side apart from Germany (who aren't even that good anymore).

Easiest route to the final and best chance we'll ever get to win the Euro's, but won't be surprised if we blow it in the Semi's.

Some truly god awful football from some of the top teams. Probably the weakest EUROs since 2004.

Or maybe the not-top teams have got better.
Top level football just isn't as good anymore. And the (top tier) players don't take it seriously, so the gap in international level seems far closer than it was, which is the illusion that "football has improved" narrative gave because you have 5-10 ultra stacked teams that help inflate player stats against teams that wouldn't even be able to compete for promotion 15 years ago...

If anything, European football is far easier in the last 25-30 years than before with all these new countries popping up.

Germany, Spain and France have suffered a steep decline, especially the first two.

I don't think Italy or England have especially suffered, but they're competitive because the others just aren't as good.

Agree, I don’t feel “heart for nation” in some top teams, aside Italy maybe.
I actually enjoy Copa more, the gap is not so big, teams know each other. Baseline for skill and technique is better, even weak teams like Venezuela or Bolivia can hold ball well.
