He couldn't start here. First he had Perišić being at his best in his last season at Inter and then Dimarco came, who also had great numbers for a wingback (also Gosens had on and off injury woes).

We all know he was a good player, but seeing the opportunity to sell him and bring Carlos Augusto -> it just makes more sense to do that and so we have better cover on that side of the pitch.

Sometimes you also have to sell a player that is actually a good player.

He played very well, had 2 or 3 bad games and got benched... that team also looks horrible atm, so they could go down.

Let's not exaggerate. He has started all their games but the last two against Napoli and Leverkusen, a CL opponent and the most in form team in Bundesliga. Their coach just chose to play more deffensive Rousillon in those games. It remains to be seen if he gets benched permanently or it had to do with opponents.
