"Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini has never quite established himself as having the right quality or profile of play for the Nerazzurri, and will not leave the club with the sense that he ever worked out as a signing.
This is the assessment in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews
, who argue that there is a reason why Inter have no intention of offering the former Atalanta midfielder a new contract.
In Gagliardini’s comments after Inter’s Serie A win over Hellas Verona on the weekend, the 28-year-old was honest about his feelings regarding his situation at the Nerazzurri.
The midfielder stated that he is disappointed with his lack of playing time, and that at the age of 28 is hoping that he can go somewhere else where he can have a more prominent role.
Gagliardini will certainly have the opportunity to do just this, as there is virtually no chance of an extension being agreed with Inter to the contract which runs out at the end of June.
The Gazzetta argues that this should not come as too much of a surprise.
Gagliardini arrived at Inter for a big €25 million fee from Atalanta in January of 2017, as a player with a lot of potential particularly in terms of his physical style of play.
However, the midfielder never managed to cut out the aspects from his game that have frustrated Nerazzurri fans.
The 28-year-old always seems to misplace passes too often or fail to read situations on the pitch, to the irritation not just of the fans but also of his coaches.
Accordingly, a player who arrived with a big reputation and the expectation of at least being a high-quality backup option has sat on the shelf for long periods.
Gagliardini will find a new club in the summer where he will hope to prove his worth at the Serie A level with regular playing time.
In the view of the Gazzetta, however, the 28-year-old’s performances over the past six and a half seasons at Inter have proven beyond any doubt that he is not at the level that the Nerazzurri aspire to. "
We should celebrate when this bum leaves like winning scudetto.
