Problems with the Forum

Guys, as we all know, the forum crashed a few days ago, leading to the loss of 5 days worth of posts (~1000). I'm sure many of you have been wondering what were the problems involved that led to the frequent crashing these last few days.

I have looked through our webhost's (Hostgator) community forums and found the answer.

• On the 3rd of February, Hostgator's network staff released an announcement detailing the problems with one of their servers, Gator 50. And of all the servers, it just so happens that our web account is hosted on this particular one. Link
• They then proceeded to upgrade the HDD, but problems ensued, which left them with an erased HDD. The last backup they took was on the 29th of January, which explains why all of our posts, PMs and shoutbox messages were lost after that particular date. Link
• Today's outtage was a result of a complete swap of the HDD chassis. This took a few hours to complete and was the reason behind our being unable to access the forum during and after gametime. Link

Anyways, let's hope that no future problems will occur, either with our host's network or servers. Everything should be back to normal now.

Sayak, this is related to this problem:

Sh!t happens, I guess. But I think it's pretty much clear that HostGator is light years ahead of our previous server, StartLogic, and I am positive that we have made the right choice in moving server.

Unbelievably, the forum was down again yesterday, though with a different reason, which I am technically incompetent to explain.

Expect another downtime this weekend as we should be moving server because we have had enough with this current server.

The forum will definitely go down over the weekend. I don't think it's unfair to have a PL this round because we do get a lot of last minute predictions.

You know what, actually it would be unfair to those who usually predict earlier too. So I'll set up a poll in the PL forum now and let's see.

Waleed, it is scheduled to be down, unless there is anything to prevent it. The reason it was not down last weekend was because there were some technical details that we couldn't thrash out, due to HostGator's (Our current server) incompetence.

Believe me, if you are irritated, put yourself in our position as we voluntarily contact, find and sort out every details then find out that we are dealing with some nincompoops in our server. But, as far as I know, this new server we are moving in will be much better. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Haha Han dont worry about it man I was just messing around man. You know we all value what you and the rest of the admins do to keep this place running. Except for maybe Hamed, that guy just plain sucks at his job, and I believe he might be the reason behind the forum being down so much.

• It gets extremely dead, I mean come on it use to be so much busier, what happened to everyone damnit - it gets way to boring

Very much true, everyone are calm, and when is one litlle spark betwen two people than pots being deleted.
Maybe we need Durai to shake up things a litlle, on the other side it's coming holliday time and everyone are piecefull and calm.
