i love this argument because it kinda ignores the fact that Juve, for example, have actually been really successful at producing players who got experience at Serie C/D level

Gatti played a lot of really lower league football before moving to Serie B for half a season then Serie A for another half, Yildaz blooded at Serie C level before moving up to the first team, same with Miretti, Fagioli, even their new keeper and ex-Inter product, Di Gregorio, had 2 seasons in Serie C before moving up.

It doesnt matter so much what level you start off at, but what matters is that you fucking smash it - Di Maggio needs to show that he can start most of the games for the season, and from there, push himself up another level (foreign league, serie B, Inter U23, whatever), and show that he smashes that out again, and then go another leg up

The mistake we often make is we either put people into clubs where they arent going to play (eg sending a RB to a team with two good RBs), or 'above' their level - you're better off under-estimating them, getting a full season, then moving 'up' to find their level rather than trying to move 'down' until you find their level

Even people in Juve like Andrea Cambiaso, Mattia Perin, etc, all got their first experiences in C/B level.

In Greece they claim Kinkoue of Inter primavera is expected tomorrow in Athens to finalize his move to Olympiacos. 300k, future sale percentage and a buyback clause.

While i was checking for something else on Plettenberg twitter page i ended up with news about this guy. In Greece he only played for Olympiacos B team. Then he moved to French club Le Havre. Limited appearances in Ligue 2 in 2022/23 but last season he started most of the games for them in Ligue 1. Now he appears to be close to Hoffenheim. Transfermarkt value him at 7m.

GdS: Inter Milan are reportedly finalizing the transfer of teenage striker Thiago Romano from Panathinaikos
The 18-year-old is a Buenos Aires native who has been developing through the ranks of Panathinaikos.

His father, Diego Romano was an Argentine player who spent the vast majority of his playing days in Greece.

He currently works as a scout at Iraklis, which explains why his son started his career in Greece rather than his native Argentina.
Romano is a left-footed player who primarily plays as an attacking winger. While he mostly features on the left flank, he can also cover on the right side as an inverted winger.

Seems that he's a free agent: https://www.transfermarkt.com/thiago-romano/profil/spieler/1077465

Honestly this guy was a solid talent when playing at our primavera. Alongside Agoumé and another French midfielder (forgot his name). I saw al three play at a youth tournament some years back in Eindhoven. Thought we really had something there. Neither 3 of them made it at our first team offcourse, but good too see at least Agoumé and Kinkoue have a nice career abroad.

Edit: I had to look it up but the other one was Christopher Attys. Who was voted player of the tournament one of those years. He didn’t live up to expectations; he’s playing at Serie C side Triestina nowadays. Positive note; they have some really great shirts coming season! :)

People, read this.

If we had U23 team, it would play where? Yes, Serie C. These kids would be playing there. The step-by-step career path what @.h. is suggesting makes much more sense if they can find the correct level season by season. If we throw Di Maggio to Serie B now when he hasn't played a match against adults, only against guys at his age (physicality being probably the most important aspect), what are the chances he's not gonna get enough minutes there? I would say there are clear chances for that.

We need to find places where these kids play and are important for their teams.

If a 19 year old who is captaining Italy youth teams has to go to the 3rd division to find playing time that’s an issue. Either he’s not a real talent or the system is flawed.

Of course there are players that make it from Serie C to Serie A. We have a player that made it to Inter from playing in Qatar at 27. Does that mean it’s the best way to develop players?

Yes a B team would play in Serie C. However, it should be used the right way. Let’s look at Yildiz for example. He is actually a few months younger than Di Maggio!

Yet he has experience playing in top flight and Euros as an 18 year old. You can’t tell me Serie C is where he learned to be a top class player. Sure it’s a nice way for him to get his first minutes against adults but it didn’t shape his talent and he did it when he was 17, not 19. Miretti made his debut in Serie C at 17, not 19.

If Italian teams are hell bent on everyone starting their career in Serie C they might as well just scrap the primavera level. Kamate is 20 and just now about to play against adults for the first time. That’s simply mismanaging talent.

The issue is two fold. It’s how Inter manages players between 17-20 (no second team hurts) but also how Italian football as a whole treats them.

Players that can compete at every youth level yet magically can’t compete with adults in Italy. Meanwhile players they beat at youth level can compete with adults immediately in their respective countries. The math ain’t mathing.

Étienne Youté Kinkoué, the giant currently playing for Le Havre in France, has come a long way before attracting the attention of a club that plays regularly in the German top division.

Kinkoué, future in Bundesliga: the former Inter player leaves France

Arrived for 400k euro from Troyes in the summer of 2019, the French footballer had been one of the most expensive purchases, relative to the youth sector, of the Inter management. The collapse of revenues due to the pandemic had then revolutionized the needs of the club of Viale della Liberazione, which subsequently decided to get rid of the boy for a sum all in all identical to that spent for his purchase.

Gone for 6 million: he goes to Germany, surprise at Inter

Today Kinkoué is worth something like 7 million euro, and it is precisely for this sum that the Germans of Hoffenheim have decided to take him from Le Havre. 22 years old, still unexplored margins of improvement, the defender - on whom Marotta still holds an unspecified percentage of the resale - is ready to put himself on the line in the new reality.
The German club is reportedly on the verge of closing the deal for the former Nerazzurri player. Who knows, maybe one day that hasty sale (500k) on the last day of the summer trading session will be bitterly regretted…

He had already made it to the more popular transfer threads as Romano claimed he was a transfer for the first team
That's what Vayannidis also thought for some absurd reason when we had Hakimi and Darmian, while Candreva and Lazaro were still on the roster

Straight out from kid's mouth:

Who have you spoken to at Inter during these negotiations?
“I spoke only with Mr. Ausilio, before I signed. He analyzed everything to me regarding the project, the plan Inter has for me, what would be the best option for me. [He explained] I’d begin my time at Inter as a member of the first team and clarified that everything regarding my future would be made after a joint decision. Always a consultation with both sides and based on mutual understanding. He explained everything about the team to me, the accommodation. Everything that needed to be analyzed and explained he did. And that completely explanatory contact, that analytic approach, was one of the key factors for me to make my decision.”

Piero has his way with words :D

Also i realize my previous post was a bit confusing. It was a Fabrizio Romano claim. Kid hasn't given any interviews.

Your product won't sell itself. You need to push it.

As we've discussed in many, many times already, this guy like many others, need to push themselves out of the Primavera. They need to shine there to have a shot (for the loan period at senior level).

I've understood this kid hasn't played against men yet, at least according to the Transfermarkt.

According to Olaprasina1908, Inter spent €450,000 to sign Romano from the Greek giants.

Strange that it keeps being reported that he was signed from another club while on transfermarkt he appeared to be out of contract / free player.
