I would rather watch at midfielders. Somebody who would be the next Mkhitaryan but has the legs to play most minutes. If only Oaktree put some money in, we could snatch somebody from Borussia Dortmund

The only Dortmund midfielder i would take is Brandt but he's already 28 (so not really a long term replacement), he would be super expensive and he doesn't seem willing to leave Germany. The rest are either too old (Groß, Sabitzer) or simply not good enough (Can, Nmecha).

Dortmund isn't the place to look for midfielders.

We have Valentin Carboni, we can also buy Fabbian, and Frattesi can be used in place of Mkhitaryan.

But what if a winger/SS became a midfielder for us? A certain Adeyemi (like I said, if Oaktree would give money for one big buy, it's Adeyemi for Mkhi replacement that I see as a possible move)

Nah. Adeyemi is a typical wing forward. He was playing as a forward for Salzburg and now he's a winger for Dortmund. In our system he would be an SS.

His best trait is his speed and his dribbling so i think he would be wasted in Mkhi's role.

I just wish we had one more fast midfielder. Barella isn't enough :(

Also sometimes attacking players surprise in midfield roles (Griezmann, Iniesta going from winger to midfielder, David Silva, Bernardo Silva,...)

Wasn't it the opposite for Iniesta? He started as a midfielder and then he played in a more advanced role late in his career? That's what i recall.

His first appearances were as a left winger of some sort, like an inside wide midfielder if it makes sense. But he was a kid coming on as a sub.

Then he became more central and eventually he was given more of a free role when Xavi and Busquets were the other two.

He's doing pretty well this early in the season. The good news is that our LWB position is covered. Otherwise, we might considering to look at players with expiring contracts like Alphonso Davies. There's also Trent Arnold on the RWB, however, both players are not realistic targets for us at the moment.

Darmian is aging and both with Dumfries also would available on free.

Trent Arnold is a best idea to replace both posts.

Both players could end up at Real. Alphonso Davies is almost a certainty. TAA is also a serious candidate for Real. Especially after Carvajal injury.

Indeed, the contract of F. Mendy is set to expire in 2025, which could potentially create an opportunity for Davies. The circumstances may also be favorable for TAA, as you mentioned. There has been some speculation that there have been no contract talks on the Liverpool side, which could imply that the club is aware that TAA may be leaving. Additionally, having Bellingham at Real could potentially facilitate his transition.
Anyway, what a free agent signing by Real would be if both players indeed join them.

Back to topic, there are some interesting names on the 2025 contract-ending list.
But, it's still unclear whether the owners will give the go-ahead to this strategy again.

Most of them are unrealistic but let's see.
Kimmich would be nice addition, but almost certain to extend with Bayern.
J. David and Tah already picked by media and linked to us.
Virgil, ripe enough for us. No rumours.
Anguissa, interesing but has 2 years optional contract extension.
Boscagli, perhaps but we already covered LCB.
Messi. [insert don't give me hope meme]
Partey, ripe enough, perhaps a good addition for DM role, slight different characteristic to Hakan, but being nonEU means we can't make a move in winter transfer. Also he seems to be back to starter for Arsenal. So perhaps they might offer him new contract.

I think Kevin De Bruyne will fit like a glove on Mkhitaryan's position. He looks quite injury prone lately, as far as I know. I could be wrong though, I don't follow closely EPL.

Zalewski was promising under Mourinho, but Roma wanted to get rid of him this summer, so I don't know. Anyway, he looks better Dimarco sub than Buchanan in my view.

Heung-min Son! That would be the killer free signing that might be possible.
