This should sum up why this transfer screams terrible idea:

Pepe was a star in the middle of Portugal’s impenetrable defense at last summer’s European Championships, and was even named the man of the match in the Final, leading Portugal to a 1-0 victory over France to lift the nation’s first major international trophy.

Since then, this season has not gone according to plan for Pepe in the Spanish capital. He’s battled injuries throughout the year, and has found himself relegated to Madrid’s bench more often than not.

Losing your starting job to Raphael Varane, one of the best young defenders in the world, is certainly understandable, but Zinedine Zidane has also often selected Nacho Fernandez ahead of Pepe when given the option this year. The Portuguese has appeared in just 18 matches for Real Madrid, and the club has declined to offer him an extension.

He's on a completely different level than Medel and Murillo, him and Miranda would be a great duo and he has the fighting spirit that most of our players have been lacking this season

This move reeks of a quick, get-back-into-europe, temporary fix. Over the years we've chopped and changed centre backs (amongst other positions) far too often to actually develop a duo that best compliment each other.

Rather than throw Pepe in with Miranda and 'hope' they become Samuel & Lucio, 'invest' in a couple that will become the pillars in defence for the next 7-8+ years. The successful clubs have this, think Juve, Real Madrid etc.

But it won't happen for a number of reasons. Firstly, we don't even know who the fuck will be the next manager ffs. And unless it's going to be a Conte or Simeone, then it's just gonna be another Pioli type that will have to deal with what he gets to 'hurry back' into Europe rather than 'develop' a team that will match the Juve's & RM's.

FFS, find/develop a cb duo that will become the consistent rocks in our backline for the next 8 years and build the team. Enough of this 'rolling of the dice' with positions that should be a lock and owned regularly.

Fuck Pepe

GdS: Inter after Pepe, 2 years with 4 millions a year

Inter is preparing for a deal in order to get Pepe. La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms the news from Marca yesterday that Inter is preparing an offer for the Portugeuese defender. “In the last couple of hours Inter has received an ok from the player, who has an expiring contract. Inter has offered a two-year contract worth 4 millions per season + bonuses. But, before accepting Inter’s deal, the 34-year old awaits Real Madrid’s next move, which probably will not come. The strategy from Inter is clear, find 2-3 leaders that can take charge of the roster, players that know what it means to win, willing to do what it takes. In addition to Pepe Inter is currently following Daniele de Rossi, expected to renew with Roma.

This club really never ceases to disappoint me. Until Ausilio leaves we will continue to be shit. This guy just don't seem to understand you can't patch or quick fix your way into a good defense. So instead of us getting Manolas or a quality CB we get Pepe. Watch us sell Murillo anyway, and then wind back up with Ranocchia after Hull decides not to accept our piece of turd.

Juve's back ups are going to be better than our starters in defense. Imagine if they decided to field a back up squad for a Serie A Derby D'Italia. We'd probably still lose, Ausilio would confirm faith in the coach, the Chinese would fire the coach a couple days after, and a few months after that Ausilio would get an extension.

A bit too harsh really. Pepe was a starter this season at Real till he got injured thats why Nacho/Varane have been playing. Its a risky risky move but I really don't mind having Pepe-Rudiger/Manolas and Miranda for our CB choices. Pepe is a leader too, we desperately need leaders.

Pepe is miles better than Varane and might be even better than Ramos. That being said I still dont want him here. Age, injuries and lack of desire could bite us. We can do better.

I fear we would be stingy retard, not willing to spend anything on defense, while investing the whole 150m budget on forwards.
Ricardo Rodriguez/Pepe/DeRossi, Naga/Medel/Dumbo extension etc. proved that.
Because Ausilio is an extreme idiot. Sunning was somehow idiotic too when they extend Ausilio contract.

Vidic left as the starter a Man U as well. You're ignoring the motivation aspect behind football. Pepe is coming off of two straight UCL finals his career is cemented as one of Portugal's most decorated players, why would he care to fight hard for us while we're struggling against Crotone in a 2,000 seat stadium, when he go to China and earn even more and not even try? He's not going to be as motivated here, and that will affect how he plays.

We're clearly half assing our defense to and going to invest heavily in our offense. Pepe isn't coming here to sit on the bench. Miranda isn't going to sit on the bench either. Unless we get a coach that is planning on playing three at the back, then Pepe would be our reinforcement for our defense and that would be a disgrace. If we at least had the UCL to play in I would be all over this deal, but we could really use this season to build chemistry for our defense in preparation for Europe, like Juve did in 2011 (or which ever year they finished 7th) instead we're wasting this opportunity.

Agreed but thats why we'll have Miranda too with us. If Pepe is out of sorts, Miranda can step up and play with Manolas/Rudiger.

Pepe for free though I guess in our situation is a little hard to turn down.

That's an assumption. You don't know he isn't going to give a shit. Many players have been cast aside by Real in favour of more fashionable buys.

Sabatini will supervise everything now and I'm sure he is not an idiot. Ricardo is moving to Milan, DDR is staying at Roma, Nagatomo I'm sure is on his way out along with Santon. Cut Ausilio some slack.

Nothing wrong with taking what R.Madrid consider "surplus". We've already done this with Cambiasso, Solari, Samuel and Figo and they've turned out well for us. However, Pepe is different than all of them for many reasons.

Pepe is a cunt on the field, but not overly bad transfer if his arrival means Miranda's exit.

Miranda is younger than Pepe, less of a crackhead, and has already settled in Inter and Italian football. There's no reason to favor Pepe over him.

Unless Miranda himself doesn't want to renew his contract, then just renew instead of downgrading into Pepe.

Yeah, it would hardly be a good thug to get rid of our best defender and replace him with a guy who was injured the entire season and is older. What is the point in that?

Not to mention Miranda is still a good player and started for Brazil.

It looks like the Pepe deal is actually going to happen.

The good thing is, we will only have Serie A next season. Which means Pepe will have time to rest and heal.

But that also means Murillo and or Miranda out for sure, esp if we also get Rudiger. What is the deal over Miranda's transfer? I know he is officially on a loan. So how would his exit work exactly?
