If Martins is smart, he is gonna stay in EPL. He should no that he is not suited to SERIEA and Laliga. Valencia and Jube will be both wrong choices for him. I agree NewCastle is way too small a club for him, but he should find a bigger club with in the EPL, maybe Liverpool. He is seriously better than any of the current strikers they have.

Yep I agree 100%. Oba wont stay at Newcastle and i think he will go to Man Utd or Liverpool.

Liverpool would be perfect for him because Coach Benitez will completly be changing his squad and he has a bomb to spend becuase of all the new American owners. Imagine Kuyt, Oba, Crouch (and possible Fernando Torres or Villa). That would be the best strike force in the country

Newcastle are a big club. Not the biggest, but still one with a grand history and fanbase that would stand tall in any league in Europe. Why should Oba not believe he can make his mark here? Why should every career choice be a stepping stone to Man United or Liverpool? Newcastle, Tottenham, Sunderland, Everton, Manchester City, West Ham, Blackburn are all good places to be.

The crushing financial force of the Champions League has, in many peoples minds have relegated them to football's hinterland.

Instead of fighting back, it seems people pander further by treating the gap between the elite and the contenders as if it is a chasm and not, as last season, two points.

More clubs are now being targeted by wealthy investors* and hopefully traditional supremacies may be challenged. In this climate, the Premiership should become more competitive. What keeps it unhealthy is the resistance to change, built on the presumption that United, Liverpool and Chelsea deserve 22 great players, and Newcastle none.

*FYI Newcastle are on the verge of getting taken over by UK Billionare Mike Ashley, which will make us the second richest club in the EPL behind Chelsea and Liverpool. Add into this the fact we've employed a very good manager and not a gutless yes man like we had last year, we look very much like a team is on the up and with a bit of luck making a much bigger on the EPL than we have since the departure of Sir Bobby.

Playing Oba and Owen together would be an interesting tactic though. It will undoubtedly force opponents to play a very deep defensive line since they wouldn't want to get burned by Oba's and Owen's pace. Thus, the biggest threat from Newcastle should come from its attacking midfielder who'd now get more space to run since the defenders would have to mark Newcastle's strikers tightly. Maybe Emre will benefit?

Spending wise I would say so, but success wise no farkin way. NewCastle are a club thats spends a lot and a lot every season, only to make an odd appearance in Uefa cup every other year. I remember 2 years ago, you guys spent an astonishing 40mill pounds in summer transfer season. I dont even remember Inter spending that much in a single season, except for maybe summer of 99.

You guys finished 13 in the league table, and got kicked out of Uefa cup by Alkamar in the Round of 16.

Once again, its good for you if some American Billionaire buys you, but NewCastle have previously spent amounts, matching any top clubs in Europe. I hardly doubt, if that American billionaire will give you chelsea like spending powers.

I dont mean to be offensive, I dont hate your club. I am pretty much indifferent to it. I want the best for Oba, and some how I think the best for Oba lies away from NewCastle.

And Newcastle is just like Napoli I guess. They have a lot of fans and were used to success in the past but over the past couple of decades, nothing has gone right for them. I guess they are a carbon copy of Spurs?

Mike Ashley has £1.9 Billion, Roman has £10 Billion.

...But until around a year or so ago Roman hand 'only' lol 3 Billion until he sold off all of his assests in the oil industry ect, so we will not be that far off his wealth of Romans first few seasons and we will almost certainly command massive spending power.

We have a proper manager in now, some one who will do everything he can to make his team win and soon we will have a wealthy abitious board.

Anyway, I think Newcastle are a big club, they draw crowds at maginficent numbers, and I think their fans are one of the few fun ones at EPL.

I think it's a case of mismanagement and bad luck, I bet things would be way different had they won the EPL in 95 (or was it 96?)

In any case, I'd be glad if they get a new rich owner than knows his soccer, and hopefully Duff will have a healthy year next year. Having players like Martin, Ownes and Duff healthy would terrorize alot of defences.

And I agree with Han, if they get a good playmaker that utilizes space well (like Roma's Mancini, but he is Brazilian), then they'd be a force.

As for Duff, I think he's pretty much out until the beginning of the next year?

And I'm pretty sure that St. James Park is one of the best stadiums in England. It was modern, had all the facilities a tourist would require and very accessible. (I read this in the newspaper a couple of years ago)
