Why not summer? The window is open.

They probably have really no idea what football is all about, much less Inter and Serie A. Granted, if they starting selling players just to make monies to fill deemed important slots indiscriminately, then I'm with you.

a smaller number of younger players, with more concentrated quality, is the key important thing, like we did with barella/bastoni, rather than just any fucker we can get for 5m and hope they turn into a 100m superstar
but I wouldn't say Bastoni or Barella were cheap and risky buys, if we had money to do a transfer or two like that every summer, I'm sure we would do it - SUMMER 2023 was AMAZING for us. Thuram, Pavard, Frattesi, Arnautović, Sanchez, Bisseck, Sommer. Most of these panned out great. We don't need summers like these every summer, but surely we won't suddenly become Dortmund? :D

right now it looks like we are going for cheaper players than that. I'm not a Mario Hermoso fan, but not going for him when he is 29 and proven quality because of high wages feels like - who else will we not go for even tho there won't be a transfer fee?

I like going for younger players, as long as sporting reasons are the main reasons for it. If it's more about marketability and resale value, it's going to backfire when our main players start to move on (like Calhanoglu).

That's kinda my point..I don't think we are just gonna start importing youth, but if we can make some very focused ones, then it's worth considering.

I disagree about Bastoni. He was definitely a risky buy. When we signed him he was still playing at Atalanta primavera. Our scouts had obviously seen something special in him but he could have also been one of the many promising kids who fail to live up the hype. As for the cost, i realize people look at the official figures (31m) and they think he was a massive investment. But in reality Inter signed him for 8m plus bonuses. Then club had to make capital gains to comply with FFP and they needed Atalanta to take some Inter youngsters so they inflated Bastoni transfer fee to do it.

Barella was a different case of course and he was indeed with the way you describe him. A lot more proven and a heavy investment. When Inter signed him he was already one of the best midfielders in the league and he had interest from top Italian clubs and Chelsea.

Lets hope OakTree find us a rich owner soon, because I don't see anything changing from Zhang -> OakTree apart from the owners having lessor emotional attachment to the club
Esp. since Oaktree operates in distressed debt - they only see this as an opportunity to turn a profit, absent of emotion or sporting objective

could you elaborate what exactly was degent by Oaktree?

for one, they didnt make us sell someone and instead did a capital increase, tbf suning probably would have made us sell someone like dumfries for the plusvalenza.

Capital increase? Did they? There never were rumours, that we would sell someone 100% this summer under Suning

Allegedly, yeah.

it was discussed a month or so ago. I dont have the links to hand and tried to find them quickly on google with no luck, but that was suggested as one of the big immediate changes

AFAIK the theory was dumfries would have been out this summer. He might still be, but as bringing in a transfer budget rather than covering losses

And you're the club accountant right? How would you even see a capital increase until the books are released next year?

What a ridiculous statement.

Well it's good that they didn't demand that club management sells someone to make up for the losses (or some of the losses). They increased the capital by covering the remaining losses Zhangs didn't cover. I read someone Zhangs covered like 22M or something before they were out (but definitely won't have a source for this, some tweet which I won't find anymore).

What Oaktree is also doing is providing liquidity. Meaning we can do our business without having to worry about are there actually cash available or not. For example Frattesi deal, which was obligation to buy this summer.
