What? This would not have counted as an assist even back in the 90s......
It s pretty simple it s only an assist if you score off the pass... If you shoot and theres a deflection and you get the ball back and shoot again and score it s not an assist for who ever played the pass in the first place. As far as i can remember it has always been like this....

It will count as a chance created by barella though.
