Selling Thuram to replace him with Jonathan David and Paz?? I wouldn't be against it.

Need to be careful about sounding too FM about this stuff. On paper you can rationalize all this kind of stuff. In reality, right now Thuram is our MVP, our top goal scorer (joint-leading scorer in Serie A), of course how the rest of this season may play out is TBD but at the moment he looks completely irreplaceable. To say nothing about what kind of message that sends in the dressing room. If it was Marcus who's getting offers and is interested in other challenges, that's one thing, if it's the club shopping the player, that's very different and not something we should be openly doing. Let PSG or Man Utd or someone trigger his RC, do something that helps kinda/sorta take the decision out of our hands.

^Thuram is now Inter's MVP - you are right.
But you'd replace him with two quality players and we all know Inter's depth is not that great, whatever other people may say.

I don't get how some people underestimate Thuram. He is perfect fit for Inter, and imo he suits better than Lautaro. He is very fast, can dribble well, he learned how to play with his back, and to protect the ball. Even the last season, almost all of our attacks went through him. He is so versatile that he can be used as SS, as pure 9 and even as a winger if it is necessary.
Selling him will be massive mistake in my view.

Im becoming more and more impazzisco for Paz, but i wonder where he would fit at Inter? He is similar in some aspects to Lazar Samardzic, they are both crafty lefties, but i dons think that they could fit our 3-5-2 style. I think that Hakan and Barella are intouchables in starting 11, so even if Paz comes in for Mkhitaryan, he still has to fight Zielinski, Fratessi and Asllani for minutes.

How are you guys seeing this situation. Do you think Paz could fit in right now?

P.S. I doubt that Inzaghi would switch for 3-4-1-2 or 3-5-1-1 with Paz as a trequartista. Thuram and Lautaro are our starting strikers, so playing with a 10 behind a single striker will not happen.

Any player leaving Inter is about the player getting a rich offer and ready to leave. If Thuram wants to leave, he can leave by the buyer paying the release clause, reported to be 85M€. In the case of a rich offer, he will probably want to raise his salary, because I doubt he really wants to leave. But let's say he's getting an offer of 10m€ net per season, I'm pretty certain our ownership and management will say, you can stay but we won't give you such a raise, or goodbye.

And to stay more on topic, I don't know how Paz would actually fit it. @thatdude phrased it pretty well in the latest Inter Jections episode, he reminds a bit of CDK. Number 10 who doesn't fit to Italian football because there are rarely #10s anymore in (at least Italian) football. So it's either attacker or offensive minded mezzala. Inzaghi talked last summer about Carboni, how he could give us extra weapon from the wing, meaning it would be more like that, extra weapon, when we want to change our formation a bit to accommodate an offensive winger. Paz is no winger, but as talked here already, he'd be more close to a player who doesn't perhaps slot in to our 3-5-2 and would be that extra weapon from the bench.

CDK does often plays in a front 2 with Lookman who is also not a traditional striker. They are pretty effective together. Perhaps that would be the best way to use Paz until he matured a bit then he could move deeper once he can be a bit more “trusted.”

his gaming is sounds like a fantasista.

Maybe Simone wants to modify his formation into 3-4-2-1 like Atalanta? Sounds okay. We don't have a lot of available CF besides Marcus right now.

As already mentioned he is closer to a forward than to a midfielder. Simone might see him as someone that can link up play from midfield. Worst case scenario if that fails you can use him in a familiar role as a support striker.
Looks like the role we had for Samardzic.

I don't see similarities with De Ketelaere. De Ketelaere had made his name at Brugge as a false #9. When he joined Milan, Pioli tried to turn him into a #10 ad even played him on the wing as that's where he was lacking players. It was hardly surprising it failed. He needed to play close to the forward. And that's why it was never in doubt for me he would work at Atalanta. I also believe he would do well in Inzaghi's system.

On the other hand, Nico Paz has impressed as a #10. Whether he can play as secondary striker or mezzala is up to anyone guess. There are no certainties.

Paz would come with a certain level of risk. Not only because of the jump from a small club to a big one but also in terms of his adaptability to Inzaghi's system. Whether he's worth the risk is a diffferent discussion but the risk will be there.

Lastly, the notion that Inzaghi is going to change his system to accomodate a player is pure fantasy. After 4 years of Inzaghi at Inter, people should have realised it by now. If Inter decide to spend big on Paz then coach already has a role in his mind in his existing system for the player. Different situation (and diffferent expectations) with Carboni who was already owned by Inter and IF he stayed coach would have to find him a role in order to get playing time.

It's proven time and time again that Inter don't have space for 10s in its system. We shouldn't change everything to accommodate one player, he should fit in.

We mostly play 352, but I've seen Inzaghi play 3511 (even with the same players) or 343 at the end of some games. He has his preference - who doesn't? - but obviously how our 352 plays is fluid and not as rigid as some people think (compared to Mazzari or Conte at Inter).

I am happy we are looking into players like this. He isn't consistent yet to be a starter for us, but he has the right attributes to be a boss for us if needed. Get him - or a player like him - and I think Inzaghi will mold him into what we need. Wouldn't be the first AM to be playing in a different position by Inzaghi :)

Longo is a Milan journalist so i wouldn't think much of this report. Waiting for reports from the usual suspects.

i think we are for sure interested, but the problem will be the price... We will see how much is Oaktree really ready to spend for these youngsters, that they want.
If they think we can struck gold with just younger players for little money, as we did with Bisseck, then they are pretty stupid.
The Frattesi sale, which will most likely happen, should help.

I'm interested to see can this guy be long term replacement for Mkhitaryan.
Selling Lautaro makes more sense than selling Thuram
You are not selling captain who doesn't want to leave.

And you are not selling quality player after bad season when his price is in the toilet.

I would sell Frattesi If I need to to buy this guy if he can be a better fit as a starter for our midfield. If he can be used as a 3rd/4th striker that is a bonus.

Didn't saw if this was already discussed in Thuram thread but he basically said he don't care about release clause and he will leave for 85 only if Inter want to sell him. So I would say 85 is just a starting point if anyone wants to buy him and he will not leave immediately if someone offers that.

I won't do a complete copy-and-paste since it's behind a paywall (the URL includes a "user_shared_article" tag, I dunno if that might open it up for people w/o a subscription, I dunno, you tell me), I'll share this much:

Paz maintains good relations with Madrid. But other teams have also approached him to inquire about his situation. In recent months, the Inter vice-president and former player Javier Zanetti has been spotted in the stands at Como matches.

For literally whatever it's worth, that's the only team-specific mention in the entire article of other teams being interested.

It's written from a Madrid-centric POV since that's one of the Madrid writers at The Athletic. I'll share one other portion:

Paz’s present and future look bright.

Will he return to Real Madrid? That is the big question.

For his part, Paz is a Madridista and would like to return but knows that it is all part of a process.

On the other hand, there are members of the Madrid board who believe Paz should stay at Como for a while. One of them told The Athletic: “If we brought him back to Madrid this summer, he would spend two years without playing football. It would be a mistake to bring him back now.”

Don't bother reading too much into rumors about Como trying to buy out the options in his current contract. It's nonsense, Madrid have no reason to do that. They kept those tabs on him for a reason, either to eventually bring them back for themselves or to sell him on and reap more financial benefit.
