Klaus Schultz, an electronic music pioneer died today. He was 74. Always enjoyed his music very meditative on the albums/cds I've acquired. Rest in Peace.

I'm not a fan of sorting shit by decades as there's a lot of residue (ie early decade carries a lot of stuff from the previous years and the latest part is usually transitional) but aren't the 80s by far the best decade for music? Can't think of a genre where the 80s isn't the peak, with the 70s probably the main competitor.

90s sucked.
2000s were solid but the rise of autotune killed the mood.
2010s had good electro shit but overall the quality has dipped. No clue on what's new now.

I have been annoying people about this album for the last few weeks.

My New Years resolution (that I quietly made around the tick of the New Year when I had a feeling and threw on some music but didn't realise until I sat down later and thought it out) is to go back and listen to some of the great albums that were made before my time or ones that I missed growing up. For some reason I didn't do this during the hectic Covid period.

This is one that falls into both categories, considering how much I like Cynic.

You can really hear the influences on modern metal (including those who take it too far... While on that tangent, sort out the drum sound, please) while listening to this album. It's like Slayer did a version of "And Justice For All", but also incorporated jazz elements into the sound.

Just a reminder... This USED to be the Rock/Metal/Blues/Jazz thread, until some bright spark (aka Pajo 😁) thought it'd be a great idea to merge it with the "Dance Music" thread and call this one the "Music" thread. Then another bright spark created an "Electronic Music" thread.

Anyway, I've been catching up on Canadian band Protest The Hero's latest album after catching them here a few weeks ago. It put me off a little at first because of the clear change in their sound. The album comes across as a bit of an overall criticism of the history of the US.

This one talks about the reaction during WWII. The writing and composition works well.

I haven't really listened to this band since Liiva left. Loomis sounds good.
