Good to know i am not the only one who feels like that. I was never a big fan of superhero movies but at first i could tolerate them. Now i have got entirely sick with the amount of superhero movies they make recently. I get it's easy money for the studios for obvious reasons but enough.
i think it’s totally possible to tell a good story in a super hero universe. For example, I thought the dark knight trilogy was very enjoyable. But ever since that and the first avengers movie we’ve been completely oversaturated with this type of media.

These movies are getting the big budgets now because they are mild and acceptable for the whole family (and can pass Chinese censors), which means 💰💰💰 Whereas, something in the past they may have gotten an exceptionally large budget would have been 2001 a space odyssey.

I don't think the problem is the superhero movies per se. They have their market and it's a specific, yet broad target audience.

The problem is the lack of anything else that's good. If resources are limited, they'll opt for cash cows. This is why we've seen Star Wars reemerge. People are also fans of familiarity and that's why a) tv shows are peaking and b) sequel upon sequel has been performed ever since these psychometric analysis of everything entered the cinema business.
Thus you have a bunch of trilogies, Mission Impossible where the only impossible thing is to stop making them, a bunch of Fast and Furious films, a ton of movies that need to Die Hard, a ton of Rocky movies, Terminator revivals, too many Aliens and Predators and a bunch of films that everyone wished they never Saw...

Familiarity is what sells. Superhero movies are easy to make because:
1) People know the heroes.
2) People love the superhero concept.
3) The stories are already established, so writing a script is easy, you just pick what comic books it's going to be based on.
4) Marketing is easy.

P.S: And yes, I'm trying to earn a trophy for silly puns. And I didn't even bother with Final Destination or Scream :D

Superhero movies' biggest bonus is that they don't discriminate across languages. It's not hard to understand their plots, and the action speaks for itself.

May i add to that the the Movie industry is struggling big time and the super hero theme gets you a pretty decent bang for the buck....
Yes they have huge budgets but they are also the closest thing you get to a guaranteed box office hit....

On the other hand making a truly great movie of most other genres is a lot harder and you might end up with a master piece that just does not hit commercially......

True.

Mainstream cinema (ie Hollywood productions) is quite shit in general. The best quality typically comes from France, Italy and Spain, though they lack funds and their marketing isn't really that high. In general, European cinema is top quality and is very underrated, whereas Hollywood stuff have money to burn for marketing and it's easier to promote an English speaking film rather than one whose language is not that widely spoken (eg Italian, German, Swedish, Greek, Czech, Polish and so on).

There's a reason why Netflix started to invest more in Europe in the past 2-3 years, as well as in Asia. They need to stay up with quality because they won't be able to compete with the rest in mainstream stuff as they're up against mega corporations that can throw 5 billion to production without care, whereas Netflix can barely afford a miss. They've had a lot of misses lately in terms of movies so they will need to invest in more European stuff as well, with higher quality. They've now become the marketing machine, so if it's on Netflix, people will know as long as Netflix wants them to know. Movie productions like 'Agora' (Spanish production, English language) would have been a huge success if they came out a decade and a half later. Instead, they couldn't even cover half their budget from cinema proceeds.

In contrast:
- Amazon Prime Video has a ton of India stuff and will likely try to keep up with audiences that like mainstream stuff.
- Apple TV content is almost exclusively focused on the US and the Anglosphere.
- Disney has its own stuff and some of that will sell forever as they have a lot of timeless flicks. I could watch the Aristocats every week :D

Watched Elysium the other day and realized that it featured both main villains from the original Narcos series as well as the Mexican spin off

Last time I watched a superhero movie was Venom 2 I believe. The first one absolutely sucked and so did the second film, at least my buddy got free tickets for that one. The only thing I remember was that there was something terribly wrong with the cinemas sound system. Shit was so loud that most people had to cover their ears during some action scenes, it was painful to listen to.

I don't really care for superhero movies but I still watch them. They will keep making superhero movies as long as they make money, even tho most of them are not good movies and just follow a certain tired formula.

Luckily there are enough good movies out every year, like Power of the dog..

I watched Dr Strange last night. It has a lot of classic Sam Raimi camera work that I really enjoyed.

I usually don't react good to campy horror, but this just worked. It genuinely felt like a comic book and that is why Raimi was so loved for his (two) spiderman movies (third one was fucked by the producers)

The part of the film where wanda was chasing them around the baxter building basement was a lot of fun. It felt like it came straight out of an 80s slasher film.

They started filming Furiosa. I don't care for Star Trek, Star Wars, Harry Potter or Fast and Furious, but this one made me skip a beat. New Mad Max in about 2 years!

I turn into an absolute child fanboy for anything Predator. I'd watch a cooking show hosted by that character!

If you loved Thor Ragnarok, you'll also love Thor Love and Thunder. The story is typical Marvel schlock, but it looks awesome, the humour is crazy good and the acting worked for me. And the goats! Oh the goats, directly from the comic books.

So if you have Marvel fatigue and you didn't like the latest Spidey movie, still give this a try.
