Marotta and the management obviously don't get the pass as they are responsibles for the sporting operation. No matter what Skriniar did or said, they had a wrong read about the situation if Skriniar walks now.

We can never forget ownership influence in everything the management can do but Skriniar walking for free is a failure no matter what.

yes nobody is bigger than Inter
Yes Internazionale Milano FC is bigger than Zhang, zhang family, some who are board of directors, and his compatriot.
Interista should remember that.
And who is Inter? Are we Inter?

I don't know when that chance to renew his contract with a salary of 4.5 million was, but given how tight our budget has been in the past two years, it's likely that the management tried to hold on to his existing salary as much as possible so that the potential raise doesn't affect the balance sheet or plans to sign the players we have signed (Dzeko, Miki) or renewals of other players' contracts that were more due at the time. Maybe they overrated Skriniar's loyalty which is a mistake per se but did we all expect that from Skriniar. We have been delaying renewals with other players too (Lauti, Brozo, Nico), but they didn't hardball us and signed the contracts when times were appropriate.

So what good or smart buy did Moratta do? Seems like he had fkd us 6 million for a few years.

Should go as well. Heads should roll over the Skriniar situation. We need 70 million to pay off the vulture venture firm and we let 100 million just walk out the door not to mention the wasted wages on so many shit players we have here.

With almost no bench or youth for the future

If we've been so tight budgeted for several years that can't add 1.5 mil to captains salary, how they agree to pay 30 mil for Correa?

Yes, I did not want him to be sold last summer but I was not aware of the fact that there was even the slightest chance that he would not have renewed.

Management (president included) should have made sure of this. If he is to be sold now for peanuts or for free in the summer, this is a huge blunder and blow for sure.

The situation is not a dichotomy. The management is responsible about everything happening at the club.

Doesn't change the fact that Skriniar played us for fools. We should've done what Fiorentina did with Vlahovic. Should've shopped him at PL and make him show his hand that he already agreed with PSG.

Don't let players use the fanbase against the club by creating narratives.

I can't speak for others but this is why I personally blame the management:
  • despite being one of, if not our best player for years, they've repeatedly tried to force him out and sell him - that too, far under market value, and once in the middle of tight title race

  • as we all know, they see players as nothing more than assets on a balance sheet, and their lack of planning and botched de Vrij renewal forced them to move onto the next asset to try and sell - Skriniar - after ruining another asset in de Vrij

  • they had the chance to renew him for significantly less - by all reports, a mere €4.5m, but did not take the opportunity

  • when they DID have the chance to sell Skriniar for a respectable (but still low) €50m, with a ready made replacement in Bremer, they did not act. Their comical incompetence lead to us missing out on both Bremer and any transfer fee for Skriniar

  • per my previous post, they posture as if this is a matter of principle and of finances, but at the same time they've wasted exorbitant amounts on failed transfers of Lukaku, Correa, Gosens, and expensive golden handshakes for Conte, Vidal and Sanchez. As I've mentioned, they've just renewed a completely useless player in D'Ambrosio for another TWO years as well - money that could've been far better spent

After such shamelessly inept allocation of enormous resources, how dare they act like they like they can't pay a loyal servant and one of our precious few WORLD CLASS assets another €1m? All the while holding him to some Hamisk comment from years ago like it was some kind of binding agreement
The fact that this posturing is actually working on some of you is bewildering and disappointing. You're entitled to your own opinions but as far as I'm concerned, you've all fallen for the classic Marotta move of blaming the player. I'm just shocked to see it's worked on so many of you.

To add insult to injury, we've apparently gone running back to de Vrij (who has been absolute garbage for 2 years now) and tried to accelerate his renewal. Oh, and we've also apparently offered Smalling a contract of €3.5m, which is more than what we're paying Skriniar

It's like we're going out of our way to give him a giant middle finger with every move we make.
Ironically, but I believe exactly the opposite. They didn`t see him just like an asset on a balance sheet, but as player who genuinely loves Inter and want to stay here. Barella, Brozo, Lautaro also signed the extensions late in their contracts, but they agreed. Skriniar didn`t.
And I just don`t believe the narative with the difference for 1m between the offer and what he wants. When he will sign with PSG, we will see the reality. The difference will be much bigger, way over our possibilities.
Inter tried to force him out? Really! I don`t see that. Yes, they would have sold him for a certain amount, but he was not forced at all. He doesn`t lost his spot on the team, even he was promoted captain. Far away from forcing someone out. You know who was forced out? Icardi. He was told he has no place in the team, they took his number and gave it to Lukaku and so on. That`s mean forcing out, not that you would agree to transfer a player, if the offer is good for the club.

Skriniar made what is best for him. That`s life. But I don`t want to hear the bullshit about his love for Inter. If he wanted a big club and a huge paycheck, he could tell the management last summer to sell him. I didn`t heard a word from him.
Sadio Mane made that. He inform Liverpool he want to leave and they sold him for a decent sum to the team he want to play. Mane was in exactly the same situation like Skriniar last summer (last year of his contract).
And because we return to the same saga with Bremer. Bremer himself signed a new contract with Torino 6 months before he was sold. This was a gentleman approach for the club, who nurtured him.
These are 2 examples, when the players help the club who grew them. Skriniar is not doing that.

Totally agree with the last sentence. If Skriniar loved Inter, then he would sign an extension while making it clear that he wishes to be sold. That would help Inter. As it stands he is shitting on the club that nurtured him, made him captain and did their best, (despite being bankrupt) to pay him as much as they could. Management has done nothing wrong here. I think they were played. Given what has transpired, I would sell his ass right now for whatever we can get, to fuck him out of his signing bonus he gets if he walks for free.

I have been reading through the pages in this thread for weeks.

I do not have any hard feelings towards Skriniar but then I have largely disengaged from following the team and every game they play.

We should not be surprised about any of this. Skriniar's departure has been on the cards for a long time now. The fact that it has dragged on so long and there has been nothing but radio silence from him shows where his intentions truly lie.

In a way, his pending departure and the way supporters have been waiting for a sign from him to indicate otherwise reminds me of when someone is dying: family and friends just hang in there waiting for a word (in our case the supporters) and things remain unchanged with the patient (in this case Skriniar). None of this is life and death but Skriniar's departure will be the death of his Inter career so maybe there are some similarities.

Let's be honest, once PSG entered the frey and signalled their intent, his time with us was essentially over because there was absolutely no way we could financially compete with them. Of course, our management have alot to answer for in terms of the way he has been shopped over the years, the timing of when they commenced negotiations and how much they offered. But the way i see it, Skriniar going to PSG is a symptom of a well and truly broken transfer system that is uneven and favours a small handful of clubs. The money being splashed by the likes of PSG, Manchester City, Chelsea, and to some extent Manchester United simply highlights the disparities between the money clubs (named above) and those vying for the crumbs like Inter.

To the posters that have said no one is bigger than Inter, all I have to say is that cliched sentiment is easy to type and say but it is bullshit. Yes, no player is bigger than the club but let's not pretend that this is the Inter we all know and grew up with. The Inter I grew up with in the early 90s were giants in Italian football. The club had a history of which we all could feel proud. We had an owner in Moratti who was unique and special and huge signings were very much a part of our repetoire.

The Inter we follow today is an empty shell of the above. The owners do not have a passion for the club. Inter does not course through their veins and they are not black and blue, regardless of how many photographs Steven Zhang takes with the Super Coppa. Our owners are number counters. The club is a little hobby for a Chinese rich boy. The vision for the club stretches between transfer windows and I would go as far as saying that probably excludes winter transfer windows because we have not been linked to any winter reinforcements this season. For me, that is a dire indication of the state affairs at the club. There is no talk about incoming players, only those who are departing.

Saying that no player is bigger than the club means 5/8s of fuck all because this Inter is not my Inter and a Super Coppa victory is scant comfort when you look at the bigger picture and see the direction in which the Zhangs are taking our once proud club.

If you consider Skriniar's departure with the above in mind, it is no surprise that he is leaving. In fact, I would say that it would have been miraculous if he had stayed. I am grateful for his contribution but it does not go any further than that and I feel that is a reflection of how his career will go when he leaves for PSG. He will just be there to make up the numbers and Inter as a club will continue to scavenge for crumbs.

The only other thought that I would like to add is in relation to Inter Legends. The likes of Javier Zanetti are really rare in this world and even more so in football today. As supporters, we are always on the look out for that kind of character and footballer. It allows us to dream and believe that there is more to football than money and that a club (Inter), its colours, its supporters and being black and blue mean more than money and a contract.

We need to reconcile ourselves with the fact that Javier Zanetti was generational. His love the club and loyalty were unrivaled and a player and charcater of his ilk will unlikely be seen again. And that is what makes him so special, why he is still in our hearts and why supporters still sing about him today. Milan Skriniar is not an Inter Legend, nor is he a mercenary but attempting to cast him in the light of our Captain was only going to end in disappointment.

This club is run by delusional owners. How we will remain competitive by selling all our best players remains to be seen. If Suning don't sell, I can see the fanbase become less interested. Skriniar is doing what's best for him and his family. Zanetti's are far and few between, even in modern day football. Zhang got greedy and wanted more money for Milan. Now it came back to bite him in the ass.

The recurring problem here is our unwillingness to learn from our past mistakes. We are one of the 15 largest clubs in Europe. Only in rare cases should players under 30 be allowed to enter the final year of their contract. When you have a bonafide star in Skriniar, you lock them up to a contract extension when they have two years left on their deal. This is what we did with both Bastoni and Barella. If the player refuses to sign an extension, you sell them and find a lower cost replacement.

I don`t buy it buddy, sorry!
You complain about the broken transfer system and the likes of Citys, Chelseas and others! But then you start to pray Moratti and the golden era!
The problem is, we used to be like those clubs back then! Moratti spent like no tomorrow! It was also a broken system but we profit from it! Because now we are at the other part of the stick it hurts! Sometimes life is a bitch.
We need to understand where we are now and what are our possibilities and make the best out of it! I hope sooner then later we will find a new owner and the trajectory of the club will reverse!
But complaining about City and Chelsea, when we were the biggest spenders in the world for years in the `90 and `00 it`s a hypocrisy.

Wealthy nation states backing football teams versus individual owners is very different. And my reference to a broken system is a reference to how unevenly FFP applies to some clubs and not others.

And we never really profited from it because Juventus were always there to rob us with the help of their referee friends.

Maybe, just maybe, everybody was lying to the fan base. The deal with PSG was always going to happen this summer. Management knew it, Skriniar knew it and PSG knew it. Inter gambled that the return of Lukaku would be enough to get the second star, coupled with securing another CL spot as long as the team was relatively unchanged.
Remember they like to leak things following victories, Hakimi minutes after the Scudetto and now Skriniar with the Super Coppa victory, and suddenly Brozovic swap rumors circulated. Once Inter secure a CL spot (hopefully) the Brozovic/Bastoni/Barella/Lautaro rumors will heat up cause of "fiscal responsibility concerns" going into the summer.

All summer it was reported that Inter would gladly trade Skriniar for Bremer plus some cash left. The guy was hearing that and then he receives two offers - one lower from a club which would gladly trade him for different player if it meant extra money and one higher from club which sought after him in the summer. Its Inter who has shown him there is no place for romantic stories when it comes to business. I dont know what our guys at helm expected him to do, but it was pretty obvious.
