The general consent on Barca forum is that Maxwell will start ahead of Abidal.
We will see when the season starts

Yeah, I wouldn't agree with that sentiment...Abidal is the first team choice...Maxwell is going to provide excellent cover and provide a different look when Barca wants to attack more against sides parking the proverbial bus (Think MANY clubs).

He's back to normal training from his knock on Monday, btw

Maxwell put in some good word for us

Barcelona’s Maxwell: Inter Will Win The Scudetto

Barcelona defender Cabelino Maxwell moved away from Inter in the summer, but he still holds the Italian club close to his heart, as he proved when he tipped them as the possible Scudetto winners this season.

His acclimatisation in Spain has been more difficult than expected, but things are improving, as he confirmed.

"Little by little, I'm adapting myself here in Spain and my family is fine," said the Brazilian player to fcinternews.it.

"I play in a fantastic club and with the passing of the time I will adapt to the game that coach [Pep] Guardiola asks me, but it's normal that there is a phase of adaptation.

"My Inter experience? I must say that it was very good: we won Scudetti in Italy and national cups.

"The team has great players who can continue the cycle of wins. I say that for the Scudetto, Inter remains favourite."

In the meantime Inter slipped down to third place in the standings, following their 1-0 defeat against Sampdoria on Sunday, but will have the opportunity to get back on the winning track on Saturday when they host Udinese at the San Siro.

If you look at Maxwell's employment history, you'd see he played regularly for Ajax, then for Inter and won 3 Scudetti, and now plays for the European Champions Barcelona. This is misleading, as it would give someone the impression that Maxwell is actually a good footballer.

I doubt that FC Barca, both are the same but i think Max is immense going forward, also he hasnt gotten enough chances with you to make that conclusion.

He can be good going forward, true...But, so far (I stress this part), he has been pretty shambolic defending

Yes but so far he hasnt cost you goals, which was what sometimes happened with us, and he will improve defensively because again with us in matches sometimes he was also good defensively but that is why i always said that Max should play in matches where you need an attacking fullback from left, when you want to defend from that side, Abidal should play.

Yeah, that appears to be the way Pep is rotating the LBs...I think I was expecting more going forward but I find that the opposition will then focus on exposing Maxwell on defense...We'll see how he does the rest of the season

Yes but as i said maxwell is not bad in defending, but now he seems in that phase, but even then you put Keita on the left with him.

He was awfully poor last night. But did anyone see how Espanyol were causing problems for Barca by pressing so much in the second half. Can't believe we forgot about it totally at the Camp Nou. :howler:

Did Jose didn't ask us to? Did the players completely forget it due to the "fear factor?"

Ali, I stressed this so much after the Barca game...if we used high pressure instead of waiting until Barca was 25 yards away from our goal to start defending, the game would have been much closer...

The sides that have caused Barca problems in the last year or so have been those that were able to successfully pressure high and nick away goals.

Depends on who is back there, of course, but usually this is hard to maintain for 90 minutes...Barca play well ahead so getting ahead early is the best recipe for success against them, IMHO

If I recall, they were beating Atletico Madrid 2-0, and then 3-2 before eventually losing 4-3...

They were also beating Mallorca 1-0, before they lost 2-1. But those are the only 2 games where Barcelona has lost after leading the match under Guardiola...

Might've been one of Maxwell's best performances for Barca...Played extremely well and had Barca not gone down a man early in the match, I think he would've surely gotten an assist tonight...Instead, he ended up having to venture forward far less as a result...Still, he kept his side of the defense in tact...Nice performance from him and long overdue with Sonic the hedgehog still recovering
