Especially in the US it's considered extremely insulting and insensitive. I don't know how it's viewed in Italy, but still those parents are idiots.

Like I've said plenty of times, much of Europe is pretty backwards in western standards of racial sensitivity. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Europe is racist (though some may say otherwise).

On the contrary, they are just more tolerant... at least here... see things for what they are and don't start crying 'that's racist!' at every drop of black watercolor paint they see, like certain uneducated pussies. The color of the skin doesn't even come to mind when interacting with black dudes here. You don't even notice. It just isn't an issue at all, people don't even talk or think about it. Many of my friends are pitch black and that is the last thing that would come to my mind if you'd ask me to describe them. I'd describe their personalities. Humans are just humans and they all look different and come from different places around the world. Not a big deal and no one sees it as one. If there's any country with racist issues due to ignorance and a generally unintelligent population, it's the USA. And how else was that kid gonna dress up like Balo, really? Without the paint? Like Balo's a white dude? That'd just be racist, man...

And he wouldn't look like him. If I were Balo I'f laugh my ass off if I'd see that. If you take that shit so serious you really need to grow a sack because you ain't gonna get far.

Talk about uneducated. Look up the history of "blackface" in the U.S. and Minstrel shows. That is why it is viewed as a insult over here. Like I said I don't know how it's viewed in other countries, you know the non arrogant way to humbly admit any ignorance. While you brashly call anyone who feels insulted a pussy and uneducated. Sounds a lot like a stereotype people try and press on a certain "uneducated and racist" population.

And btw, the black friend defense? :einstein:

WHen you use a word like n***a or even blackface, context becomes irrelevant

The problem is the negative connotations associated with that word

This issue comes up every October during Halloween. There are numerous editorial articles on that you can find if you google "blackface halloween". In terms of Halloween costumes involving blackface, I'd say some are more offensive than others (Trayvon Martin... so awful :palm:). The kid as Balotelli isn't so bad, but like thatdude noted, the history of people dressing up like that and acting in a very demeaning way is really the issue. That history might be more of an American thing, but we should probably all be aware of it.

America may have a more... robust... history of racism, but it has no doubt existed in some form in nearly the entire western world. IMO part of the reason Yanks are so sensitive about it is that we have "dealt with it" as a culture. Not sure all of Europe can say the same. Not saying it's necessarily worse there, but it is not acknowledged as much. Sure, "political correctness" can go too far sometimes, but frankly I'm glad to live in a culture where there is accountability on issues like race, and where people aren't afraid to call each other out and raise awareness for (often unintentional) insensitivity.

Also, gotta point out something from Native's comments:

The color of the skin doesn't even come to mind when interacting with black dudes here. You don't even notice. It just isn't an issue at all, people don't even talk or think about it. Many of my friends are pitch black and that is the last thing that would come to my mind if you'd ask me to describe them.

how else was that kid gonna dress up like Balo, really? Without the paint? Like Balo's a white dude? That'd just be racist, man...

And he wouldn't look like him.

IMO there's a big disconnect between these two quotes. Seems inconsistent to me.

Neh, I just cannot be arsed to put it in a better way because posts like this one tire me so much and they will be unavoidable anyway.

Black friend defense, really? Did you just make that up?

Thanks.

If people would stop giving a shit instead of being so overly sensitive it wouldn't even be an issue anymore. It is because you make it like that. Like you want it to be. I don't want it to be.

Wtf??? (link)

Malaysia's civil aviation chief Azharuddin Abdul Rahman has suggested that the two passengers who were travelling on stolen passports on the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 looked like black Italian footballer Mario Balotelli.

The aviation chief dismissed earlier reports that the two were Asian-looking but refused to elaborate.

"I can confirm that he is not a Malaysian, but cannot divulge which country he is from yet," he said, hinting that revealing their identity could hinder the investigation.

Asked how the two looked like, Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said: "Do you know a footballer by the name of [Mario] Balotelli?"

do they really have to specify by implying that mario balotelli is a BLACK italian player ffs? it is disgusting, cant the reporter just say mario balotelli instead and give the lad some respect. I feel bad for balotelli, he is such a polarized figure and yes i still rate him because he came from our youth system.

I'm doubting Mario will ever make it to being truly world class. His glimpses of pure talent are becoming farther and farther apart. When do we just call him a good talented striker, and that's it. He's no savior worthy of leading Milan.

Lol he will not ever make it to 'real world class' even if it's simply because his mentality and intelligence just lack for it too much. Simple as that.

If he wasn't famous early on and had a normal education and youth, he might have turned out good, with normal morality. Who knows.

But now he is just fucked up the way Justin Bieber was fucked up, be it a bit less worse. And that's too bad... because for becoming world class, having the brains to do it is one of the greatest requirements...

He was playing really good for Italy. In City and Milan, too laidback most of the time - why the difference, I don't know

Galliani is going to ship his ass to Cesena one day, probably
