Dream: Jurgen Klopp
Reality: Ivan Juric
Just a hypothetical question: Do you think Klopp could work at Inter in our current situation and with the current squad? The problem now because with our formation and financial problems we need a coach who plays 3-5-2 (or maybe 3-4-3). But we can't get a coach who plays for example 4-3-3 because that would mean we need to overhaul the squad again and we don't have the funds.

Although it trigger the mind to have someone as Klopp or Guardiola or even Nagelsmann at Inter. Just to see how they will deal with everything at and around the club. Something nice to dream about before the game tonight.

With the current squad? Definitely not. Klopp is all about back 4, gegenpressing and deadly counter attacks while Inter are built for 3-5-2 and possesion based football. Hiring Klopp would be a long term project that goes far beyong tactics. While he plays with a back 4 he doesn't stubbornly stick with one formation. He started with a 4-3-1-2 at Dortmund, he won the Bundesliga titles with 4-2-3-1 and nowadays he plays with a 4-3-3 with a false #9. He's willing to adjust to the players he has at his disposal. We have also seen he can get the best out of his squad, both at Dortmund and Liverpool, he can build a squad that fits his style with a restricted budget (unlike Guardiola for example) and with a very high success rate in transfers and he won't complain about lack of transfers in public. I also think his style would work in Italy. That's why i would consider Klopp perfect for us. Sadly we can't afford him and he doesn't seem interested in working in Italy.

My issue with Ten Hag isn't we would have to overhaul the squad. Eventually we would have to move on from back 3 and overhaul the squad if we want to hire a top coach. The only top coach who plays with a back 3 is Tuchel but he's a short term option as he often has fallouts with management. My issue with Ten Hag is he's totally untested in a top league and, most importantly, i don't think his style of play suits Serie A.

As for Nagelsmann, he basically is the German version of Gasperini. He's just a lot younger and more cool. He can build a great attacking set up in his teams but at the cost of a very poor display in defence. Bayern are lucky Lewandowski is still killing it at 33 else they would have paid Nagelsmann's ultra attacking style a lot more often.

Anyway, this is a totally hypothetical discussion. Marotta made it clear last summer they only consider Italian coaches so we can forget about an exciting hiring from abroad as long as he is at the club.

In the off chance inzaghi leaves this season, only possible if we miss top 4 and its not impossible atm...
Who comes in, realistically?
Italiano?
Juric?

I can't see us getting a top manager, so it would have to be a slightly odd choice. No obvious candidates in Italy IMO

The candidates outside Italy would probably be even worse. From the free agents we obviously can't afford Zidane. The rest are coaches like Valverde, Villas Boas, Favre, Rudi Garcia, Bielsa, Jogi Low, Benitez. No thanks.

From the ones with a job, i can't see any interesting name who would be worth it. In England, all the good ones are at top clubs and they are way too expensive. Germany? Nagelsmann and Flick aren't leaving their jobs and no one else is worth it. I don't really follow Ligue 1 so i don't have an opinion on any of their coaches. Spain? Obviously we can't afford Simeone. I have heard good things about Alguacil but he has only worked at Sociedad. He would be a massive gamble.

Even in Italy the options are very limited and none of them is convincing. Juric has shown promising signs and he would probably require the least changes but he has no experience at a top level. Italiano looks Sarri-esque to me. We would have to make big changes to fit his style. I don't see any other option in Italy. Gasperini has a contract till 2024. De Zerbi? Dionisi? Not worth it.

Let's hope Inzaghi turns things around else we could be in a very bad situation.

Roberto mancini could be available and I'd honestly take him back.

Wtf, were we ever linked to him before? I somehow felt like he either coached us which is not the case or was heavily linked to us

He wouldn't mess well with Suning. You know how demanding Roberto can be in the market. He's a lot like Conte in that respect, albeit with more class and less public crying.

If Inzaghi leaves I would take Juric. I know it's a banter-era move, but I think he's going to develop into a legit manager for a top club. He knows the league and he wouldn't complain about the squad (publicly).

If we're looking at options abroad, there isn't much that appeals to me. Blanc seems like an obvious choice who has links to the club and has ability to control a locker room, although that stint with the French national team really tarnished him in my eyes. He was good at PSG, though.

It's Simeone or bust tbh. Although the ideal situation is Inzaghi turns things around and stays.

Plus Mancini recently extended his contract till 2026. It's doubtful he could be available even if Italy fail to qualify to World Cup. As for Blanc, i wanted him badly at Inter both in 2016 and 2017 but the guy hasn't worked since 2016. He has been out for way too long.

Btw i forgot to mention Erik Ten Hag. It would take a squad overhaul to fit his tactics though and he has never worked at a top league so he would be another gamble.

If Inzaghi fails the manager really depends on the finances available.
If we have adequate finances then Italiano or ten haag.
If not juric.

A cheap realistic option for us

Ange Postecoglou

Has celtic absolutely balling after coming in when they were a mess. Incredible attacking modern football too. He has celtic all over real Madrid currently as well. I know how much we wanked ourselves off last year for competing with them. He's doing it right now with celtic.

I know it'll never happen, but he'll soon get a bigger EPL job and show what a good manager he is

He would be good for attacking style but his defence game is below par. He requires attackers run a lot to make space, especially those Japanese players, rely on overlapping between fullback and wingers. In the other hand, not so organised at defending.
We have to rebuild for his 4-3-3, Scottish league is also not hard to dominate as well. His run in Europa last year showed his weakness.

This opinion of Juric complaining did not age well.

I would take Juric purely to watch him beat the shit out of Marotta.

Also I think he’s a good coach. Also I’m 100% embracing this new Banter Era.
