Did you watch the tournament? Soon as Alvarez became the starter Argentina's attack became more fluid. Even tonight's game. Argentina were, from minute zero, the better team. They tired towards the end, Toro energized them on the offensive, which is to be expected (fresh legs).

Except I wasn't talking about the tournament. Clearly Alvarez was better overall. I'm talking about the end of this game.

you gonna rely on a guy who has only scored 1 international goal against a big team (Italy, who didnt even make the WC) in a tough spot, and scored 0 times this WC?

I dont think so

Thats exactly like I said would happen.

Argentina didnt have better striker options than Lautaro , thats a fact.

and as predicted, didnt score and rated worst player of the final

unfortunately, as we've been saying for a while, he really needs to push on from where he is now. Too inconsistent to ever make it at a big club - they cant afford the level of streakiness you get out of lautaro. 3 goals in his last 20 CL matches, for example, 0 goals in the world cup, etc. Just not good enough at the 50mil+ price point to be honest

That being said, I'm really happy for him he's probably managed to achieve his dream but winning the world cup with Messi, we can ignore the detail that he almost threw it :D

His penalty also helped them reach the semifinal. And he was huge for Argentina in the games before World Cup

It's the second game where he was spoonfed by messi but still couldn't convert. I was heavily roasted by my friends lol

Do we also ignore the fact that its his shot that allows messi's tap in? Or is this thread now the lets bash toro endlessly. The seems to be the interisti attitude regarding him.

TBH, its not really about bashing him, its about wanting him to push on and fulfill his potential. He's 25 now, if he wants to be a top player he really needs to do better. And we should all want him to do better - 3 goals in 20 CL games just isnt good enough at a club like Inter. I think he jeopardised his future as an Argentinian starter, personally, this world cup. Alvarez is clearly preferred over him at the moment, and probably will be for a while.

His movement around dangerous areas is significantly better than Alvarez, which results in a many good goal scoring opportunities but fucking hell, he shouldn’t need 10 chances to score 1 goal. Alvarez was clinical with the chances he did have and that’s why he was the deserved starter.

I’m happy for Lautaro but on a personal level, he was very wasteful this tournament. Hopefully him and Rom bounce back cos we’ll need them to do much better than what they displayed with their respective countries.

His misses are forgotten already, the whole nation is partying as we speak. Even O'le, argentinian paper praised his mentality despite missing chances in the final too.

There will be lots of changes for Argentina anyway, like trying to move on from Messi dependancy, Lautaro missing chances won't be their biggest problem lol.

Lautaro got plenty of minutes and can be a proud winner tonight. Enough said.

The biggest problem right now is....is he getting slower ALREADY? He was never a pacy attacker, but damn, he really takes too much time to prepare for some shots.

He scores so many times when he shoots first.

Other than that, he did help with the 3rd goal, it was a nice shot IMO.

He wasn't at his best throughout the Cup, but he also helped here and there with what he did. A good bench player for Argentina.

Look it from this angle - Lautaro will not be "a hot name" during the upcoming transfer windows.

Yes, this was not his tournament but let's not overreact as if he is the worst striker on the Earth.

no, he's fine against smaller teams - his strike record in recent years is actually quite good, it just falls apart on the bigger stages. I'd speculate his valuation has dropped quite a lot in the last couple of seasons, even though last year he had a great season in terms of overall goals - too streaky, too inconsistent, and not enough appearing on the big stage. Was it last season he was the striker with the most shots at goal in the group stages? And didnt score a single one?

Remember, of course, he's not even the worst Argentinian striker at Inter.

The problem with Lautaro is not big teams or that he's only good against small teams. He's just a hot and cold player. That's the way he is. When he's in his good days he's really good. But when he's off he's just a headache to watch.

Another issue with him as a player is he relies too much on instinct. I don't know when he's gonna start playing more smart, but if he doesn't improve on his decision making he's not gonna get any better as a player.

He is just average. At best. He is no champion. He showed that in this WC. If Scaloni didnt invented Alvarez, they'll be out in the group.

Don't have one.
He was a lot slimmer a couple of years back and looked much better on the ball and faster when running. He still has condition for running, but he is way bulkier than he needs to be imo. Every time he sprints, I always have a feeling he needs to lose weight.

Obviously his biggest problems are finishing and hot/cold spells, but the issue I mentioned above is also a thing that's causing him major problems imo, especially given his roles both in argentina and especially inter.

If our best striker plays like this in January we are fucked. Also he is probably playing injured...
