I cannot understand how Alvarez continually gets selected as a starter in front of Lautaro.

The main reason is that he lost his starting place to Alvarez in the World Cup. He can take it back in this Copa. I give it a fair chance he might start the next match against Peru.

yeah especially against atletico in the first and second leg, totally useless games to perfom. i couldn't care about the rest of the remaining games but cmon, it's not an excuse. As every year he has his 2-3 months of absence. He scored a lot, but that didn't change it, he still needs to improve on that.
