Former Barcelona director Ramon Planes admits that Lautaro Martinez came close to joining the La Liga giants.

Lautaro was a top target for the Catalans in the 2019-20 and Planes has revealed why the Argentinean didn’t move to the Nou Camp.

Inter would be prepared to sell Lautaro Martinez for €90m this summer, with Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund among the favourites, according to reports.

According to Calciomercato.com, the asking price for Lautaro Martinez would be circa €90m, so already a significant cut from the original €110m release clause.

He seriously needs to regain form to get anything in the region of €80m for him!

Arsenal seems desperate to buy (at least) a forward, Spurs might also get in frame. However not sure how much Lautaro will like those destinations.

Lautaro has to start and hopefully score. Inter's going to need him to get back to scoring at least occasionally, for any chance of getting the second star IMHO. 🐸 as a vice-Dzeko is however, intriguing.

I find the talk about selling Martinez unwarranted.

All of us knew that he is a second striker and is not capable of being the spearhead of our attack. I think expectations are too high and that posters on here are failing to take into consideration that the burden when it came to goalscoring was meant to be shared between Dzeko, Martinez and Correa. The question I have is why isn't Correa a part of the sale conversation?

Martinez plays next to a 36 year old whose mobility is more suited to an old age home than a football pitch. He runs presses and gives alot on the field. No one expeccted him to fill Lukaku's shoes or even come close to that kind of goal haul.

Correa has not played and can not be relied on to make a contribution and yet we are talking about selling Martinez ahead of Correa who was a complete waste of money and will not amount to shit at Inter.

I am not absolving Martinez for his lack of goals but the guy has been ever present for the last two seasons. He was run into the ground last season and played nearly every match under Conte and he is expected to perform in a similar manner for a third straight season, with little rest and an inferior strike partner. I think some perspective would be useful.

The other thought I have is why are the likes of Liverpool and Atletico Madrid supposedly interested in him? They are top European clubs and they know players when they go in for them. Personally, I feel too much is being asked of him and he is also trying to make up for Dzeko's stagnant play.

And lastly, while I am on the the topic of tiredness, why did we agree to loan Caicedo when he is injured and cannot play? Wasn't he meant to be a vice to Dzeko? Why we do we keep acquiring the services of players that are injured or that struggle with injury?

Lautaro plays as a second striker doesn't mean he is not expected to be the main scorer. He is our most valued and well-paid striker, but he is not great at creating (everybody knows that) and we can't expect him to score loads of goals either? Then what we can expect? A defensive striker?

We talk about selling Lautaro doesn't mean we want to keep Correa. Ideally we replace both of them with more effective strikers.

Atletico had a lot of failures in transfer recent years, Felix (too expensive), Diego Costa, Lemar, Griezmann, it's not like they are successful with all their signings. Liverpool is another story, they already have a great team with great attacking players, Lautaro can benefit from playing with Salah and co. just as every body here has said, he's a Robin not Batman, Liverpool can win with a striker that doesn't score regularly (like Firmino) because they already have Salah, Mane, Jota, etc. We don't have that luxury. Robin is useless without Batman and with our current financial situation, we can't buy a Batman for Lautaro, so we'd better sell him to buy a Batman.

Selling Martinez would be a big mistake. And the main reason for that is that in the event he was sold, Sunni’s would not be able to afford a replacement because they will not reinvest the money in the team. And if they did elect to replace him, it would be with a player of less quality.

The suggestion that they would sell both Correa and Martinez is Football Manager stuff. Think about it: Vecino is going to be out of contract, so too will Vidal. Gagliardini is rubbish and Sanchez is overpaid. They are going to need to prioritise bringing in replacements in midfield and support for our frontmen.

Right now, Martinez is not our biggest problem. Finding a strike partner with whom he is compatible and that can actually play with him would make a huge difference.

I think we should be careful for what we wish for because there are signs we are heading back to another banter era and Martinez ‘s sale would do nothing but confirm that.
