We're slowly turning into Milan
If there was a diktat from above to sign this guy ahead of hermoso than I would have to admit you are not far from the truth with that statement, especially if that trend continues.

Why should we sign a mediocre CB like Hermoso for 3.5-4M net per season?

I honestly like Carlos more as a LCB than CB. He is good in both offense and defense. So sign a sub for Bastoni for cheap is not bad.

Why should we sign mediocre midfielder like mkhi, why should we sign mediocre defender like acerbi, why should we sign mediocre right back like darmian. Because they bring experience and quality compared to players like cabal and without those players we probably wouldn't win half those trophies we won so far.

Once you start substituting those players with average young players like cabal just because they are younger and cheaper, you are slowly moving into mediocrity. Players like cabal were our bread and butter during the banter era as well. They show glimpses of something in a below mediocre team like verona, you buy them, you don't feel as guilty cos you can always tap yourself on the back and say oh they are young, there is time, and then you quickly find out they are not good enough at all.

Maybe It's too early for these types of analyses cos cabal represents a quick fix solution, and he wouldn't even be here if tajon didn't get injured, but i m just commenting on a real possibility that this becomes a strategy for us in the near future. I also saw some articles where it said taremi and zielinski would have never come here if ausilio and marotta didn't finalize those transfers way before oaktree came. We'll see in the future I guess, but mark my words, without a possibility to sign players like hermoso, zielinski and mkhi and instead opting for younger players just because they are younger we will not be continuing on our current winning path. Real life football ain't football manager where you buy young players, and then they develop exponentially with every game they play, like some people here would like to believe.

But we signed zielinski and Taremi or that I just imagined it?

You guys overreacting for no reason. Signing Cabal is the same as signing Asllani, Augusto, Bisscek and etc. Signing young players with big potential is part of our mercato strategy for years.

Yeah many people forget we already got two guys in their prime respectively. Looking at our age structure in Defence it is only wise to get someone younger.

we also need a player there no matter how old the player

we have 3 players for 2 positions, I don't count Darmian as a player for the left side, Acerbi and Buchanan are unknowns right now

at least 4 players should be in the squad when the season starts, Dimarco, Bastoni, Augusto, Cabal would be just fine

And we aren’t really signing him

Definitely not a big Hermoso fan but if Oaktree's blocking signings like that which have all the makings of being reasonable, then there's very little faith to have in them other than the hope that they can sell the club as quickly as they can. I know they never cared to own the club to begin with but that was always a risk in agreeing to the loan deal they made with Suning. The least they can do is that, if Marotta - who they have claimed to put their trust in to run the day-to-day operations of the club - is presenting them with a perfectly reasonable market opportunity, they shouldn't be flatly rejecting it. Just plain missing the forest from the trees sort of shit and not the sign of an ownership group that understands how successful clubs run themselves.

He is not mediocre.
This guy had 2 good seasons in his career and thats it. He has nothing special to offer. If I comapre him to SDV so yeah he's mediocre and I understand why we dont sign him to be a bench player for 7.8M.

There's a reason why we are on July 15th and Hermoso is willing to wait for Inter and lowered his demands. He has nothing else, even if he goes to Napoli he would be a bench player.

Perhaps another reason we are leaning towards the Cabal deal is the possibility of making a capital gain from Issiaka Kamate.
He is one of the stand out performer in primavera imo. Along with Berenbruch, Di Maggio and Akinsanmiro.

It will be quite interesting to see Kamate appear in Serie A, and Verona would be good destination for him.

Apparently their new coach is Paolo Zanetti, iirc he is good in giving playing time for young players.
When he was in charge of Empoli and Venezia, he gave Satriano and S. Esposito a lot of minutes.
