Sporting CP have appealed to CAS regarding their quest to receive €30m in compensation from Inter regarding Joao Mario

The Nerazzurri signed the Portuguese midfielder from the Lisbon side in August 2016 in a deal worth around €45m total. He spent five years attached to the club before leaving on a free transfer in July 2021, following which he joined up with Benfica.

When Inter signed Joao Mario from Sporting in 2016, a clause was inserted that would’ve seen the Lisbon side receive €30m in the event that the midfielder joined a different Portuguese club, something they believe happened when he switched teams five years later.

Inter’s latest financial documents shed further light on the dispute. On July 10 of this year, FIFA rejected Sporting’s appeal for €30m in compensation from the Nerazzurri, so on September 6 Sporting submitted a new appeal to CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport), refusing to give up.
