Roma probe availability of ex-Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag

As Serie A side Roma look at the possibility of hiring a new manager to replace Ivan Juric, they have tried to understand the situation of former Manchester United Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman was sacked some weeks ago by United and is without a job. La Gazzetta dello Sport state that Roma owners Friedkins are calm about the situation and they are taking some days to decide the next few steps.

They were in London recently and in the city, they probed the possibility of hiring Ten Hag. They asked about his availability for the role but the word they received was that the Dutchman didn’t want to get involved in another chaotic club after the United job and the feeling is that he is someone who has only one way of playing the game.

Graham Potter is another name of interest and while Frank Lampard has been linked, no contact has been made with the Englishman. He is in contact with Coventry City and so far, we don’t know what is going on in the minds of the Friedkins.

Rudi Garcia has been spoken to and he is interested in a return and as of now, it seems difficult for Edin Terzic to be appointed.
Madness. They should ask the players who they want as they now seem to be deciding whether a coach stays or goes. In fact, just get Mancini/Cristante to be joint-managers. Tw4ts.
What a club!

Now they're linked with Montella as hot candidate. Furthermore, decision on the next coach will be taken not by the sporting director but by Friedkin himself.

Roma are the gift that keeps on giving.

They need to figure out fast how to give us the gift of stealing points from Napoli right after the break.

I thought they actually had someone lined up for real. :D

This is a real shitshow now. Goodbye any "new coach effect".

There are rumors Cabal and ACL with Colombia, to what extent, right now not sure. But it might be serious if his wife writes this :

"I love you so much husband. The battles will be many but we are here to face them."

Juve sources are reporting the same now. Fears for an ACL injury for Cabal.

Amount of ACL injuries in recent years is insane.

I think this has to do with the kind of training they do nowadays in all sports at all levels. So much focus on maximizing explosiveness and athleticism rather than honing skills. The body can only take so much of a beating. Doesnt help that these guys are never off. Way too many games. Feel bad for Cabal and hope he recovers quickly. That being said, theres some vindication in Juve stealing our targets and them getting injured every time.

Feels like a real uptick since the expanded international fixtures too?

What expanded international fixtures? There aren't any more of them in the football calendar.

Only the Club World Cup is a new international match window in the calendar, next summer.

CL will bring 2-4 new matches making the schedule a bit more congested but we're not there yet.

Yeah, everything is for the purposes of maximizing players to play as many games as possible, very little time is spent for honing skills and technique especially with younger players. Playing every three days just doesn't allow it. I think in a decade or so when hopefully everything returns to normal (I don't think this current trend of increasing number of games is sustainable at all) we will look at this current period as absolute madness in terms of what was expected from players and most of all how much quality suffered over current quantity we are being force-fed.

Nations League. That competition slowly became as competitive as qualifiers. It looked good on paper to get rid of "useless" friendlies, as they were being called, but I think it hurt club football immeasurable. Only in last couple of years that became evident imo.

In the past, those friendlies were an opportunity for the main players to get rested or at least play low intensity, low stake games. Now, that terminology in national football doesn't even exist.

the nations league thing. it used to be tournament/break/tournament/break over 4 years, but now that's reduced

and then we'll also get the same now with club world cup - 3 summer tournaments every 4 years? and most of our players do copa america too? its just fucking crowded, tbh, and players dont get a proper summer off.

Nation's League just replaced some international friendlies. Rest of the world plays the same games as before (South-America for example). NT windows during the season are pretty much the same still.

Wrong. In a decade we’ll have 50-man squads and play 80 games per season.

They aren't the same. Friendlies are for experimenting, teams could chill and make as many subs as possible. Nation's League intensity is higher and rule is the same as official matches i.e. max 5 subs. Injuries and exhaustion raise accordingly.

You know what, I think people who are making decisions about all this would gladly replace players with cyborgs if it means more games and more money

I'm just hoping, like all bubbles, it will burst eventually, coz regular people and fans don't even realize how much they are being robbed quality wise in terms of their viewing experience. We got use to injuries, managers calculating all the time about who to play because of tiredness, players never being on maximum output... It's a horrible mess that could have been created only in a super greedy system under the guise of "giving people what they want".

what "needs" to happen is ACL tear for Mbappe, Haaland and whoever else is very popular, let's say Yamal

when that happens, maybe things will change

This. The only way things turn to normal is if players have a hard look on themselves and accept to have normal salaries. While they ask for higher and higher salaries clubs will push for more and more games.
