With Onana arriving on a Bosman, Handanovic's time as a first team player is intended to be over. So, who do you think should be Inter's next captain?

Skriniar I guess. I wouldn't mind giving it to Brozovic if he stays either.

That said, I don't think its a guarantee that Onana will immediately take over from Handanovic. The kid has hardly played in like a year. Handa is still very good, it may take time for Onana to unseat him.

I tihnk Hndanovic will still retain the formal captain role even if from the bench, but the day to day captain will probably be someone like Skriniar. It helps the club also kind of avoid the formality of giving Barella the captainhood for another year.

Onana has to be really good to immediately bench someone like Handanovic (I mean Julio Cesar good), so Handanovic may remain the captain for a while.

The next candidates are obviously Skriniar, Barella and Bastoni. I don't believe Brozovic is an option. Bastoni's way too young, so that leaves Skriniar and Barella. Both are very much liked by the fans obviously, but I'd pick up whoever has a better effect on the team on and off the pitch (which I can't tell). I think the armband will eventually end up with Barella, but both can be good captains though. Just stay away from choices like Icardi and we'll be fine.

Barella being an Italian gives him the edge I think. Though Skriniar seems like more of a leader on the pitch. Barella has some more maturing to do I think sometimes, he's prone to tantrums when things aren't going his way.

Skriniar but it will go to Nico.

Handa may stay as the official club captain if he decides to take toldo/buffon role he has been offered.

Skriniar
I'm glad to see that FIF has still a high football IQ. Good to see that and that gives me confidence for the future.

With that said ofcourse it should be Skrinair who will be the next captain. Not only because his grinta, his love for the club and team. His behaviour on and off the pitch etc.

Barella would be a good choice if he is more mature and would be my second pick. Skriniar seems to motivate the team more during the games and seems to be more focused on how the team is playing etc. Which makes sense because when you are a defender you have to game in front of you and as a midfielder like Barella you are always in the middle of everyting so it's harder. Also the arm gestures and physical signs Barella gives is not something a captain would do.

The only problem is we don't know how they are in the locker room. Maybe Barella is very present in the dressing room without we knowing about.

Long story short: Skriniar.

....what.....

in Italy, its usually the longest serving first team player. Because of the requirements of the role, that's often aa defender or keeper, I'll give you that - Inter, Milan, Juve are all captained by aa defender or keeper off the top of my head.

But that's not picking the caaptain becaause they're the defender/midfielder its because they're the longest serving regular starter t the club.

Look at City as an example, pretty much ll of their captains are midfielders. Barca are now with Bsuquets. Liverpool is Henderson anad Milner

Napoli is Insigne, Roma Pellegrini...

Nice discussion to have but a moot point IMO. It’s already established the armband was offered to Barella when he renewed his contract. The only question is whether Handanovic will stay, and I think he will, in which case as others have said, Handanovic will remain the official captain.

Should be Skriniar considering Barella is a bit of a child at times but that’s politics for you.

What I'm hoping will happen is that Handa stays for another season or two as the official captain, Skriniar is the on the pitch functional captain most of the time, and in two years time Barella has matured enough to take it on himself

Should de Vrij stay, then he would be my choice. For me he seems a bit more self-controlled than Skriniar, who would be my second choice.

Barella is a terrible choice as a captain. He always seems to me on the edge for a red card.

I voted Skriniar, but I'll understand why they would give it to Barella. He's Italian and will play most games for us.

Sounds nice but won’t happen imo. If you put the armband on Skriniar now you can’t skip him to give it to Barella in two years time without slighting Skriniar, who doesn’t deserve that.
