It's precisely like that.The 'wages too high' and 'panic re-signing' argument isn't the full story though - we had little to no money to pay transfer fees and so its really hard to move on from older players with high wages because your hands are tied. Take SDV for example - if we had even $15-20mm to replace him with a younger player, we would have done that and paid that player lower wages. But when you don't have money for transfers, you end up overpaying older players to stick around for another year or two.
We need to also remember we made a big overhaul in our squad already. Some continuity isn't bad and as said, it's usually just more expensive to sign new players than extend the current ones.
