Castro needs 'perfect strategy' against Inter

Shakhtar Donetsk coach Luis Castro looks forward to the ‘most important match’ in his career and hopes to ‘stop Inter and Romelu Lukaku with the perfect strategy’.

The Ukrainians prepare for the semi-final against Inter in the Europa League, and former FC Porto coach Castro admitted it will be his biggest task as a coach.

“Even if I played a quarter-final in the Europa League with Porto, against Sevilla in 2014, I will say that this is the most important match of my career,” Castro told Marca.

The Portuguese 58-year-old praised the Nerazzurri coach Antonio Conte ahead of tonight’s big game.

“He has always had very well built and balanced teams, both in attack and defence,” Castro added. “That’s what’s happening at Inter right now. They have returned looking well after the pandemic.”

Despite being labelled as underdogs, Castro believes Shakhtar have a chance to win a place in the Final.

“The game is played on the pitch, not at the bookies. Football is a business,” he said. “But for us, it’s not like that, because for us the only thing that matters are us and the opponents.

“If others think Inter are the favourites, that’s OK, then they are the favourites. But we never feel inferior to anyone.

“We played 11 games in Europe this season, between the Champions League and the Europa League, and we only lost two games, against [Manchester] City and Atalanta.

“Both games were at home. Away, we haven’t lost yet.”

Romelu Lukaku has scored in nine consecutive games and Castro aims to stop the Belgium international and Inter with the ‘perfect strategy’.

“We have to adopt the perfect strategy to stop him and that’s a task for the whole team, not just a single player.

“We must stop Inter and that includes stopping Lukaku.”
Their coach seems like a smart guy and they are confident. I`m cautiously optimistic, as we need a better performance than the one against Leverkusen.

Our fears of Ukrainian and Russian teams are solely based on Cold War U.S propaganda movies.

and why do we need a more clinical striker? i don't think we need to discuss this, lukaku already showed he's worth this season.

Conte is not "a shit coach". For he's first year he did a decent job till now.

WTF, you just said we need to be more clinical.

Conte is a shit coach and has done a mediocre job this season.

We barely finished 4th last season in serie A and this season you expected us to be among top8? Where is the logic?

I've never said Spalletti did a great job last season, in fact the complete opposite plus all the shitshow with Icardi, Perišić and Nainggolan.

So Conte with a much better squad improved from that, that's not really an accomplishment, he's the highest payed coach in Serie A, the 2nd highest in the world and we still play so shit, why even play with 3-defenders (all of them top BTW) if we're gonna look so shaky everything we get attacked.

People have two contradictory thoughts in their head right now, Conte is a top coach but we must be concerned about facing Shakhtar Donetsk, so honestly deep down you know he's a shit coach otherwise there wouldn't be any concern at all.

If Conte is a shit coach I don't even want to think about all the coaches we've had since the Treble + all the clowns that finished below him in the league + all those who got knocked out of Europe before him.

I don't really get how people think comparing Conte with absolute nobodies with much worse squads puts Conte in a good light.

We will be the favs if we win Shaktar tonight.

Not sure tbh. Guess the favorites are still the team that went into the final and won it 5/5. Now they going for the 6th.

I have a weird feeling about this game, and the weird feeling is not knowing how to feel.

On a "perfect" Pazza Inter night nobody needs to stop Inter; Inter will just stop Inter. Let's just hope tonight is not one of those nights.

Wait people are calling Conte shit now? What, because he didn't forge the perfectly oiled treble winning monster machine in just one season?

All he did was manage to approach juBe to a single point difference in less than a year and possibly win our first trophy in nearly a decade, an international one at that, but okay  I suppose some will always find a reason to whine about our coach just because they want to.

Only a draw? You get fucked if Shakhtar wins in regular time?

I placed a bet for Shakhtar to advance. 3.30 odds, higher than against Leverkusen, so we should just fucking win this one.
Only 3.0 in Croatia :eek:kay:

So we will be happy or rich in few hours. You can't have both.

I have watched the highlights from their matches vs atalanta and they were clearly the defensive team. Atalanta had more chances and they pinned them in their box only to lose from a counterattack in the 94min. Atalanta's problem in the first match were the missed chances, I hope that Lukaku will not forgive them. They already seem too arrogant for their level, please 5-1 be the score. We need to defend deep and will score against them from positional, well build attacks.

Atalanta have been a better attacking team than us this year, though. They scored a ridiculous number of league goals, ~100?

Have a feeling we might regret starting D'Ambrosio today. He always struggles against clubs with pace.

You have been remembering USSR for 30 years.

Who does still remember Yugoslavia or Czechoslovakia? Austria-Hungary ceased to exist in 1918. In 1948 everyone had already forgotten that there was this country.

Most of you are under 30yo but you still remember USSR though . Could you kindly tell me - WHY?

Have the feeling Handa is gonna have to show up big today with a few saves. This is when you want your keeper wearing the armband.

Shakhtar has no chances. Inter is too strong now. Hope it won't be 2-8 or so

Getting ready for the match today. I really don't know what to think tbh. Prepping for an emotional rollercoaster with plenty of nail biting. C'mon guys, Forza Inter. :interflag:
