He’s also 34 starting almost every fixture since the World Cup finished. Much like Dzeko, his minutes need to be spread out.

Well, he has been playing regularly ever since and still managed to keep his momentum. Last night he wasn't on it. I agree on Dzeko part, but regarding Mkhi; I don't think the issue was over-time of playing, the guy was just out of sync. Way too many mistakes on decision, lack of ability to get out of tight zones and ect.

I mean, it's normal to have a day off but the excuses of him being crap last night isn't due to playing too much IMO aren't correct.

I think it’s a more fundamental problem than that he’s burnt out or out of sync last night.

The issue is that he’s simply not a central midfielder. He’s done very well for the most part, but a cagey game like last night really exposed his glaring weakness - he can’t find space in the middle of the park. Watch how smoothly Brozovic moves between lines to receive the ball. Miki just doesn’t have a knack for that.

Paradoxically, he’s fantastic at cutting off the passing avenues when the opposition has the ball, but he cuts off his own avenues when we have the ball.

When given free reign in the forward third at other clubs, he would take over games, but he still looks completely lost when we’re trying to transition for the back.

We can discount the misplaced passes last night as an off game, but I think his main problem was off the ball. His performance also nullified Dimarco’s contribution to a large extent.

I can't believe we are relying on him being a starter every single match. He's 34 years old and is in Serie A in large part due to not being deemed good enough for Arsenal/Manchester United teams during their poor periods. He still shows class, but it shows where we are when he's the first name on the teamsheet.

Let me preface this by saying that I think he's been wonderfully dependable this season.

Ideally, we keep our current midfield core intact while letting Gagliardini go, sign a capable body and move Mkhi to the bench. He seems like the type of character you'd want in the squad and has creative capabilities we dearly miss in our midfield.

In reality, he'll probably challenge Zanetti's consecutive starts record between this season and the next. Or we'll pull of a stupid deal like swapping Brozovic for Kessie + some cash but never actually sign any other midfielders so Mkhi suddenly becomes our only midfield backup.

I fully agree.

It's still so fucking frustrating how many mispasses this guy gives and all the other shit he pulls off (like the Monza match).

Still, with his age and so called mispasses, he has a better season than Lukaku, Brozo and Barella. What did he do in Monza match? lost the ball in the middle? It can happen to anyone. It's not like he scored an auto goal.

I can give you Lukaku and Brozo but not Barella, wtf. Barella is our engine, without him we are mostly shit.

Monza match, that idiotic attempt to dribble past an opponent in the center circle at fucking last minute of the match. Given his experience he should know NOT to try that shit precisely because of the reason we witnessed 20 seconds later.

It can happen to any idiot trying that shit, but it should not happen to an experienced veteran like Mhkitaryan. That's part of the package "experience" you expect from these type of players. Not try stupid shit like that. At the end of the match, play it safe, play time, avoid any unnecessary risks.

Well, check out how many bad games Barella had. Not comparing players, but for each good game of Barella, there were 2 bad games by him. Just go over the stats and comments. Miki however, 2 games ago scored an important goal and had motm award. in fact. if you look at team performance stats, 4.0 was an average for the team against Bologna. Miki had 3.9. it was a bad game in general.

Congrats on another start. I am shocked he never gets any injury. He also makes at least 1 horrible mistake every single game, which leads to a dangerous counter.

Yeah he is incredible iron man. Also so reliable but then exactly that one horrible mistake each match which luckily haven't cost us except against Monza.

another massive performance, he reads the game so well, intercept lots of balls, too bad he couldn't run in the end, he had two great opportunities to counter but hadn't had the power to finish

Honestly, the most telling sign that he’s playing alright is that we have a 34yr-old playing almost every minute and his thread is completely unpopulated.

Limone should dose him, cause we saw yesterday how good he can be when he gets proper rest. Dont use him every three days, you have Brozo, Barella who can play instead.

Kudos to Darmian, Acerbi and Mkhi. They went beyond our expectations. No one expected they'll be this good for us.

I was wrong on them.... I admit it. I just really hate Roma and anyone who has ever played for them. He has been really solid when he played. Def shouldn't be starting but beggars can't be choosers right now

I can't believe what this guy did. Biggest surprise of the season. Like many people here mentioned in last days it's a luxury to choose between Cala and Brozo and all thanks to this guy over-performing.

The only shame is that he got a yellow card, I don't want him to fuck up and get a second yellow. Gags is waiting on the bench
