Niceeeee
Belgium's problem is that their players don't fit the system, they want to defend and play on the counter while they don't really have the players to do so. But since the players are great anyway they've still managed to execute this well enough and be effective with it, though you can see it isn't what really suits them on how many chances their opponents get and how often Courtois has to save their asses. However, their defense stands and kept every sheet clean, except for a dumb pen. And they always score when the opposition gets tired, after the 70th minute... all of this is very much like our NT, to make a comparison for example. Only we have the players that you need for it, like a Robben who can run all the way from the defense to the goal while surpassing 6 players and score.
A lukaku won't do that; he needs to be served and Belgium have many strong players for the midfield, it's where they shine imo, with whom they could play way more attacking football to achieve that goal, while still maintaining strong defense. Lukaku needs many assists and he won't get them with their current tactics. They have the players to make this happen ffs, not many countries can say the same (surely we can't; we really rely on the counter attack).
You can see the difference if you look at how many chances we let through and how many times our keeper saves us compared to Belgium. Chile had 1 chance, 1 shot on goal in the entire game and I didn't see our keeper at all. Here Courtois did many saves and Korea had 12(!) shots on goal. This just proves that this isn't their system, and while this game did also prove how great their team is (still getting 9 out of 9 points in this formation) I'm afraid it only worked because their rivals were really weak and even with weak rivals the results were not good enough (1-0 against Korea...) and I'm afraid that if Wilmots doesn't chance his tactics, a stronger country in the upcoming knock out phase will utilize some of the many chances Belgium let through that their weak group opponents failed to utilize... and then score more than once, knocking them out of the WC because their attack doesn't and can't come to its right with these tactics and won't score more than 1-2 goals itself. I'm afraid even the US will be able to do it.
In other words, Wilmots really needs to chance his formation and tactics, because this group phase has proven both how great his players are, but also that they won't succeed with his current ones. If he manages to take everything out of the group he has and make it an oiled machine (like they were in some friendlies/qualifiers) they can easily reach the freaking semi final ffs. If Belgium go out early, he's the only one to blame. Still it was satisfying to see the individual quality in actions of the players on the field.
Congratulations Belgium

Haha and like many times in Ajax, using Vertonghen on LB proves very useful, match winner imo. Even took a goal, as he also did many times in Ajax. He may not like this position as much but he's damn well more effective in it. Good move...
