Uni why is korea's team declining you think, the squad is not bad at all? is it the coach's tactical approach?
I dono. I don't follow korean football, at all. From what I can tell it's a mix of the FA, coach and players - so basically everyone.
First, the FA is ludicrous. Nepotism is immense in Korea. Combine that with the Korean cultural hierarchy of superiority, and you've got a bad mix of misplaced priorities. The FA will pick coaches they are friends with or business associates with, people who they owe a favor to. Then those coaches will show favoritism to those the players who came from the same universities as them etc. They'll pick a captain based on his place in the hierarchy, rather than their ability to lead on the pitch.
Second,
this particular coach is apparently an extreme case of incompetence mixed with a frightening detachment from reality. As I said, I don't follow Korean football (because why the fuck would I) but I've been hearing nothing but nightmare stories from my friends who do. To begin with, his tactics seem ludicrously ineffective. Korea have looked inept and impotent in all 3 games. Do not let the Germany result fool you. They defended resiliently, but Germany were atrocious. Then, the coach seems to have delusions of grandeur regarding his tactics. He's deliberately played weaker lineups, different formations, even given his players different shirt numbers all in his words, as a tactic to try and confuse his opposition. The last friendly before the world cup was played behind closed doors, no fans, no media, and he was still worried that the Senegal coach was going to leak his tactics to opponents.
Finally, the players are just garbage. Ki Seung Yueng looks finished as a player. He should focus on finding a new team (he's leaving relegated Swansea) where he can play regularly and build himself back up. Son is obviously a decent player. Tottenham are obviously very strong these days and for him to a regular first team player there shows he can play at a high level. But in the Korea NT he tries to do too much by himself and this backfires most of the time. The goalkeeper looks OK. He should do everything in his power to move to a small European side. Everyone else appears to be fucking hopeless. I like the Lee kid from Verona but he still hasn't made the transition from talented kid to reliable young player.
