Italy playing quite nicely but failing to take chances better. All very familiar to us.
Frattesi is the Pipo Inzaghi of midfielders. Does fuck all but scores well above average.

Decent win. Frattesi and Jorginho were a disappointment. Scamacca had 1 good chance but overall had a good build up play. I'm in favor of benching Calafiori for Buongorno next game.

Did Retegui achieve zero touches or did I miss it?

Disappointing match by Albania. I didn't expect to win, but at least a better display in term of ball possession was bare minimum.

Lacked ideas and bravery above everything. Well deserved win for Italia, hopefully we make damage to Spain at least.

Well actually, Chiesa has been VERY good tonight, especially in first half. Barella has been crucial, but major part of Italia's dominance came from Chiesa's game in the flank. He was constantly a threat, and created chances. I'd still give Barella MOTW, but at the same time Chiesa getting the award isn't that surprising to me, because Chiesa was really, really good.

ehe.... if sylvinho tells them don't press at all for an entire 60-70 minutes again they might as well cut off the pitch and make it offside to cross the opposition area. just call it spain training grounds and don't televise it. italy is probably the weakest team of the three. Spain will do what Italy can't: score a shitload of goals

Yeah find him way to aggressive pressing wise for a defender in a two-man defense. He’s caught out of position way to often. Great passing wise tho.
It was essentially a back 3 though. Dimarco and Chiesa were basically wingbacks. I don’t think I’d trust either Bastoni or Calafiori in a back 4. He did have a mistake that almost led to the equalizer. Otherwise thought he did really well. Would take him at inter for sure.

Yes, it definitely was 3-4-2-1. Bastoni mostly played in central position and did fine. Only issue with him playing there is that it breaks his excellent connection with Dimarco.

It is really shame Acerbi got injured as I think that Inter defence of Bastoni, Acerbi and Darmian could got Italy far. Maybe Buongiorno can be a solid replacement for Acerbi in that central position. Tonight Calafiori was a bit undisciplined tactically and I think Spalletti should go with Torino's player next game.

And Darmian should play instead of Di Lorenzo anyway, Italy's worse performer tonight.

Also when I saw Chiesa playing the whole game as a right wing back, I had a thought. Marotta, get him on a free next summer to replace Dumfries

Italy played a lot of different formations during the game. But the setup while defending was mostly with a back four (while attacking it was indeed with a back three or even back two). Calafiori cut inside when Albania got to attack, pressing up hard in midfield, leaving great amounts af space behind him (and the formation switched back to a back three of Basto, Dima en Di Lorenzo again). The biggest difference with a 'traditional' 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 was there wasn't a defensive setup with 5 defenders due Chiesa (who played a very good first half, but Italy came partly under pressure because of his absence in defensive part).

Better said Calafiori and Chiesa where really good and dangerous when Italy had possession. But hey where a liability when Albania got the ball. Now isn't that the biggest problem against Albania, but i doubt it would be the right strategy against Spain.
