Today was the story of packed midfields and fullbacks making or breaking their team.

A lot of crucial mistakes it seemed were committed by each teams LB, like Lewandowski's goal, which came after BAD reading of the play by Greece's LB, the cross came from a good run by Poland's RB. Similarly, Poland almost threw the game away when they conceded the penalty, the LB was playing Greece's poacher onside, decides late to try draw the offsides instead of follow the run, and we all saw what happened, Szczeny saw RED. On another note, Papadopoulous looked good, just like when we played against him vs Schalke. Good strong young defender, not the best reader of the game, or anything, but he looks like he is built like a brick shithouse, and has a great future ahead of him.

Russia ran wild by getting their fullbacks into the attack, esp. Zhirkov and Arshavin combining on the left flank.

It tells you A LOT about the modern game. Get ready for 5 man midfields for the next couple years, and if so, the fullbacks become crucial in attack. Which is why Inter's lack of a LW and poor fullbacks (like Chivu) worries me!

Didn't know where to post this but i was like loled when i noticed that firstly me and then most of the FIF members use that common phrase
"to be honest" and i laughed ironic cause i felt that there can't be so much honesty these days. All around whenever we say somethin from a crappy idea to a great one we type that "tbh" thing. It reminded me the american style that often used to see in american movies/shows the "do you know what i mean" shit.Spread the Karimi bro moto or whatever just don't say tbh.Say tbfh. :trollol:

edit:My inspiration on that was bzzdk. He said like 3 to be honest on two sentences. No offence pal.:)

I like that every group had a winner... no one tied at 1 point each :)

Happy that there hasn't been a single goalless game so far, iirc

Very different start compared to WC 2010 when everyone was very defensive, I think

Euro 2012: 8 matches, 20 goals = 2.5 goals per match

World Cup 2010: 16 matches, 25 goals = 1.6 goals per match

At large events like Euro tactical mistakes are not forgiven.Example Greece first 6mins at today's game.Cechs succeded the fastest 2-0 at Euros history.

Does the world cup just have more nerves and defense as well as less chemistry than Euro events? I had trouble convincing my friends to watch this competition with me since they were "sleeping" during the world cup watching the scoreless draws.

There really wasn't that many scoreless draws though. Only 7 in the whole tournament and only 2 occurred on the same day. 7 out of 64 matches is not really that bad. Plus, there were matches to balance it out like these:

Argentina 4–1 South Korea
Nigeria 2–2 South Korea
Germany 4–0 Australia
Denmark 1–3 Japan
Slovakia 3–2 Italy
Brazil 3–1 Côte d'Ivoire
Portugal 7–0 North Korea
Argentina 3-1 Mexico
Germany 4-1 England
Argentina 0-4 Germany
Uruguay 2-3 Netherlands
Uruguay 2-3 Germany

145 total goals scored...that is more than 2 a match.

I guess it's just bad voodoo that my friends ended up watching the 0-0 or 1-0 games. I think they only watched the 3rd place game out of what you listed there.

lol yeah most of my friends are the same way, even games that weren't scoreless or 1-0 they seemed determined to hate it.

Pretty much :p I was in Canada the first week of the WC, they weren't even in the competition and they were a hell of a lot more into it than when I got back home.

Bendtner fined 100k and banned for a match for displaying his underwear with sponsor on it. Meanwhile racist chanting and hooliganism gets much less punishment. :palm:

Why the fuck are they expanding the amount of teams for the next tournament? What fucking use will teams worse than Ireland offer?
