I've been listening to some ridiculous things after Argentina's loss from pundits and supporters are playing the same blame game they did with Zanetti but now with Palacio.

Messi totally deserved the golden bal guys. After all, he scored important goals in the group stage against Nigeria, B&H and Iran.

Congrats to ze Germans. They more or less deserved it and showed their strength throughout the tournament even though the Final itself was a fairly even affair.

Wonder if Fappuchino rates this German midfield as winners now. I remember how he went on and on about how this midfield is not a champion midfield and how Juve midfield is better than Bayern because Italy won against Germany in Euro 12.

Schweinsteiger performance was one the best midfield performance in the world cup in recent years. He was everywhere and recovered possession so many times. It was even impressive as his midfield partner was injured in the warm up.

Attacking midfield Germany certainly has the most depth out of any nation. Iniesta/Silva still better imo, but Spain doesn't have as much depth.

Central midfield for me Juventus still has the best midfield. Pirlo/Pogba/Vidal (even Marchisio is good) is better than what Bayern has.

Again, I think this world cup has probably been the weakest of all time in terms of individual level. I have abused Schweini on occasions (he did well this WC), but for me Vidal is still better.

Fap, explain "individual level".

Do you mean some stars performance or a manager's selection?

Pogba will go on to become a superstar but right now he is not better than Martinez, Schweinsteiger. Still they have Kroos and Thiago who are excellent players. Best CM by far imo.

Enough with the old school bias. This germany team is a loaded side, mind you they were without reus, gundogan and khedira who were all sure starters had they been fully fit. i find this germany side to be more efficient, combative and possibly superior compared to the 06 italian squad. Yes the 06 team had great names but the current german side have quite a few top stars themselves who are likely to go down in history books as hall of fame candidates. Monster is spot on as far as i am concerned.

pogba looool? Paul pogba, u cannot be serious lmao. Vidal ok, dude is a great player but dont compare a washed up peerlo and a verratti level prospect like pogba to germany's midfield. Vidal is probably the only player equal to shweini.

Kroos >>>>> current peerlo and pogba. Comparing those two players to bayern's central midfielders is pretty asinine.

James deserves the Golden Ball or maybe Mueller.

Perhaps. But I don't understand all this fuss about Messi winning the golden ball, because:

1. No one really cares about the Golden Ball. The World Cup is one of those rare events where the Golden Boot is far more prestigious than the best player award.

2. Some of the conspiracy theories are interesting, but don't stack up. FIFA has nothing to do with the Golden ball, apart from deciding the shortlist. Their shortlist was decent. The winner is decided by a media vote - which means that its always going to be a bit of a popularity contest.

3. This award is actually decided BEFORE the most important game of the tournament. So the performances in the final and the result have nothing to do with who wins this award. It is stupid, but that's how it is. Zidane won this award in 2006, despite his disgraceful headbutt in the final which lost France the World Cup.

Before the final, you can't really blame the media for voting with the assumption that Messi will make a difference in the final. Germany was a collective effort, the team was greater than the sum of individual parts. For Argentina, the individual efforts stood out more.

This award usually throws up a less deserving name, because of the way this is done. Like I said, no one really cares anyway.

Respect for Schweini for the shear amount of beating he endured. He's ready for MMA, at least as a punching bag.

Messi getting the award was ridiculous, no matter who was in charge. Those who were in charge were wrong. He himself seemed totally embarrassed/annoyed by it.

Just a question, how many people also condemn Materazzi for provoking Zidane?

Trash talking is a part of every sport. You can't go around headbutting every player that says shit about you or your family.
