Serie A in decline, Serie A is shit, fuck your Serie A you lost another coefficient point to Portugal... I suppose we've all been hearing this shit (some if it quite true) from all our dickhead friends who follow the EPL, die for Barca/Real or suddenly became BuLi "experts". But I don't think the future, or the current situation is that bleak for the Serie A, so I've decided to create sort of a fantasy league of leagues at the World Cup. The rules are:

1. Five leagues are in contention: Serie A, La Liga, EPL, BuLi and Ligue 1

2. Based on the full final squads, each league gets 1 point for every player sent to Brazil

3. Every player selected for the National Teams of the countries represented by the above leagues who does not play in the national league leads to a point deduction.

4. Once the competition starts, every player who actually plays a game gives his league 1 point, bench selection get you half a point, the same negative points apply to actual playing as per point 3 above.

Relegated teams are part of the league, promoted teams are not i.e. based on the 2013-2014 season

As it stands (based on provisional and final lists announced to date) 21 May 2014:

I don't know if I really grasp the point of this.

Italian football is in decline. There are less "elite" Italian football players than ever before. Who is the face of the Italian national team? Probably Pirlo still. In other words, there has been no new era since '06. With that being said, most Italians choose to play in the Italian league. There's a variety of factors that influence this, aside from just the supposed quality of the league. But the fact that most Italians play in the Serie A means nothing when the quality of the Italian NT essentially bottomed out 4 years ago in South Africa and still is trying to gain it's footing.

Only 17 Spanish NT members play in La Liga. So? The quality of those 17 players far exceeds the quality of the 22 Italian players in Serie A.

Like I said, I don't really understand what point you're trying to make. Perhaps if you clarify I will agree with you.

Let me explain slowly, I'm not just counting nationals playing in their own league, it's how many representatives each top league sent to WC. The more the league representatives play, the more points that league wins. It's not fucking rocket science.

Let me ask my question again: what is the point of this? Are you bored? Or do you believe this will actually prove something? Every WC team isn't composed of the best players from a country necessarily (see France). So it's not rocket science, but it's a mammoth waste of time.

How could I possibly be proving something? Clearly it's not a PhD dissertation because it's on a fucking football forum on the Internet. It's a simple exercise I thought was fun. Holy shit you're a downer

I agree with the fact that Serie A isn't nearly as bad as many would like people to believe.
