Dribbles not at Maicon's level. Crosses still not as good as Hakimi's. But he has improved A LOT. Most importantly, his defensive positioning has improved. That was one of the weakest areas before. Happy for his goal. You could tell the fans were genuinely happy for him in the stadium.

This is why you don't panic after a player, new to Serie A, struggles after ten matches. Dumfries has the proper mentality, unlike trash like Dalbert and Lazaro. He's exceeded expectations at every stop in his career. The man deserves credit.

True, the guy is a trooper. Let's hope he doesn't flop when he needs to take the next step (CL performance and derbies)

I still don’t rate him that much but he helps us counter much more effectively than Darmian. I don’t think he’s Lazaro/ Dalbert level but not elite either. It doesn’t really matter in the context of a team anyway. He has the right mentality which is a huge bonus.

Although we paid 20mil+ each for Lazaro/ Dalbert (which was basically a total loss). And we paid 45mil for an elite level talent like Hakimi.

For the price we payed he’s doing admirably.

Hakimi high crosses were terrible. He didn't even know how to do it.

He's okay, basically an average player utilized right, like what Vecino was for Spalletti when he came here. I like that he's a hard worker, but I don't see him being any better than Darmian, DDA or Young, except that he is younger. Still far away from being Perišić, Cancelo or Hakimi level and I do not think he ever will be, but a new D'ambrosio is fine by me after a bunch of losers like Lazaro and Dalbert

I have been following this thread for a long time, but just officially registered today. I have been an inter fan for over 25 years now , anyway to your opinion about dumfries and darmain, I think dumfries is far more better than darmain, I can even tell you that he has some attributes that Hakimi lacks, I am not disputing the fact that Hakimi is more skillful, but Hakimi doesn't have dumfries physicality and strength, do you think is easy for a right wing back to score 3goals in 4 matches? And all his goals are not just tap in! Let's give credit to this guy, he came from a lower league, he doesn't speak the language yet, that means we have not seen his full strength yet, but for now this this is the best rwb in serie a.

Look, I do give credit to the guy, but not as some others on this forum who think they have to praise him just because he isn't shit. I like both Darmian and Dumfries and I don't mind if you think one is better than the other, the most important thing right now is that the four (five if you count DDA) wingbacks we have right now are better than most combo of players in that position we ever had (or at least the best in a decade).

Dumfries has been involved in five goals (three scored, two assisted) in his eight Serie A starts this season.

I was worried he was going to be murdered by D'AM like all before him

Hopefully the knock/injury wasn't too bad. This match shows he still needs to develop further. Pedro has been a threat on his flank and tied Dumfries down the whole time. Not sure if Inzaghi explicitly instructed Dumfries not to venture forward. But his attacking play was weak today. Sure he got himself in goal-scoring positions a few times. But his contribution otherwise was restricted to frequent back-passes. Hopefully the tactical immaturity will go away the more he plays.

I agree, there are some deficiencies in regards to the build up. You can tell the team doesn’t trust him receiving the ball in all positions. We recycle possession unless he’s basically unmarked.

That shouldn’t come as a surprise though for anyone who’s been watching this season. At least the team seems to be compensating for it somewhat tactically instead of trying to force him to play under pressure. He does still have good physical tools that can help the team when utilized properly. We saw that today with the goal he almost scored.

He created one great chance for Lautaro, and had another to score by himself, but missed it. I don't see him doing better that that, especially against better teams, where his limitations are more exposed.

You can see how determinedly he charges into the box every time there is a cross from the opposite flank. He will become a nuisance there the way D'Ambrosio or Mandzukic have done over the years. He was unlucky to not score last night, that was a good save.

Yeah, Dumfries will be a useful guy with those box runs. I'm not worried about team not trusting him fully. He just needs to get the confidence up with what he's doing out there, getting to the rhythm of the team and anticipate the plays evolving offensively.
