I have the latest drivers fo the external drive i have.

The hotfix isnt for download on the MS website....you have to specifcally ask for it and then Microsoft sends you an email with the link to download the hotfix..i download it then after that i have to extract it to a place but i dont know where.

I presume it's in a zipfile then. Check whether in of the files inside the zip files is a microsoft standalone package file see if there's any file inside the zipfolder which you can run as an installer.

If there's not you will have to ask the guys who send you the link how to install it.

I have anothert problem with vista....its kinda of a question / problem.....it seems to me that vista chooses the best colors and appearance itself...anything i change in the nividia control changes back automatically....is this a probelm or is it normal?cause i want to make the screen has more color and contrast but that seems to be a problem...also videos appear very strange on vista...they steem to look far worse than when i used to watch them on XP...any ideas?

Using the latest drivers for your video card and monitor?? I use don't really adjust contrast or any of those settings so can't really help with that. Videos on mine looks fine.

With everything else being equal what processor would you guys go for in a desktop?

Intel Core 2 Q6600 Quad-Core or an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6550

I know one is a quad core and the other a dual core but nothing else really stands out as a huge difference when comparing them. The quad has 2.4GHz while the dual has 2.33GHz. The FSB on the dual is actually slightly faster at 1333 as compared to the 1066 of the quad.

Can anyone help me make a decision on this one?

PS: The price difference between the two is only $60 for the quad.

The quad is a better proccessor than the core 2 duo.....they are all good anyways....you thinking of buying a already built desktop?

So graphics card....something i want to upgrade to my rig....the ATI x1600 XT has been really outdated....my options are either the new geforce 8800 GT(which i heard is actually better than the higher priced GTS) or GTS(512 or 640..which ever is better) or the GTX if my father will purchase it from abroad....OR i will just wait next month for the 9 series to be released...Stefan...any idea on which one of these cards is better and if i would get one now or wait for the 9 series high end cards to come out?

8800gts 512mb is faster than 8800gt and 8800 gt is faster than 8800gts 320mb/640mb. 8800 gtx/ultra is still faster than all of them.

Well for one, I read a recent news that AMD is going to struggle to compete with Intel in the next few years so that might be a clue. :| Also, I think AMD processors is much more noisy that Intel's and that's a big factor for me since I wanna leave my PC on overnight.

Well, noise mostly depends on the fans. Cleaning the dust from them or changing them might decrease the noise.

Still, Intel are miles ahead of AMD when it comes to the heating thing. This's also why laptops with AMD processors face serious heating problems, like mine.

Once I tried to play PES on the beach with my laptop during a hot day (something like +55 degrees), and it crashed after only 1-2 minutes.

Currently Intel is faster.

Go for one of the new 45nm chips. For dual core go something like 8200-8500 or for quad core go q9300- Q9500. Anything in that range will be good.

Stefan, whats the difference b/t quad core and duo core? I know that duo core means, that it allows you to run two applications simultaneously, so does quad core allow you to run 4?
Whats the difference in price between the two? I have seen very few processors with quad core chips.

Adnan, it depends on your price range. But the T-8000 series is relatively new and way expensive. You can go for T-7500 or something, if you are looking for something cheaper.

I have a question for the computer experts here: Can you tell me what's the difference between "Shut down," "Standby" and "Hibernate." Can you break it down a little on which should I use if I'm just gonna turn off the comp for less than an hour, 1-5 hour or more etc. Thanks a lot.

haha well firstly, if ur paying electricity by meter.. don't leave it on standby too often
