This huge difference with Gasp's Inter in just three days. I'm excited to see what Ranieri could bring us in the future...

Was the lineup flat 4-4-2 at the start? Didn't see the game till around 70th minute so can't say much about the game.

Can we expect we will see more 4-4-2 flat lineups in the future? I think our players aren't exactly suited for that if we want to play ball possession. On the other hand, I don't see Ranieri looking for ball possession football, but winning football. Inter is not known for our ball possession football. But some kind of 4-4-2 with diamond or even 4-3-3 could be perhaps better (with flanked forwards who don't play as wingers but more like inside forwards).

it was 4-4-2 from the start but with forlan tracking back and drifting it was effectively a 4-2-3-1

I felt it was more a 4-3-3 because Forlan and Cou got central when we attacked. We moved to a 4-4-2 when defending, so its in the middle somewhere. We really dint use the wings enough to call it a 4-2-3-1.

We looked good in the first half, but I'm still really worried. Got lucky today, but I can see us drawing quite a few games if he goes ultra def after just 55 minutes played. :palm:

Oh well, we won, fuck it. Let's hope it continues.

Yes it was a B I G mistake to do that, somehow we did it, but for his first game he was pretty good.

Also, our first game under Leo was a 3-1 win too, just sayng.

Seemed to be a 4-4-2 without the ball and 4-3-3 when we had the ball with cou and forlan given freedom to roam when on attack.

I think it took some balls to field Coutinho in the middle of the park, also introducing Jonathan to help block Bologna's attacks on our right was a really good move too. Overall, a decent performance, players on their best positions, hopefully it will get better and better. Nice job Mr. Ranieri.

A solid win to start the Ranieri era isn't too shabby!

I'm glad most of us were able to give him the benefit of the doubt - so far he hasn't dissapointed.

We couldnt have expected more from players who had been training for a completely different system for months..but the team did pretty well imo.Lets hope we can keep winning.

Ranieri: "This is the spirit"
Saturday, 24 September 2011 21:03:06

BOLOGNA – It was Claudio Ranieri's first game in charge of Inter and he got off to the perfect start. With a smile on his lips, this is how he commented on the win over Bologna: "It was important to get off on the right foot. The lads needed a confidence boost. I said it didn't matter whether we played well or badly; what mattered was that we fought for every ball to get the result. And that's what we did. These lads are hungry and they showed that. I was pleased with the self-sacrifice I saw in all of them. This is the right spirit."

The coach went on with his analysis of the match: "The first half was positive, the only thing we gave away was that chance for Di Vaio, but Julio Cear did well. Forlan and Pazzini did some very good things, as did Coutinho. The rest of the team was compact and held firm. Then in the second half they began to attack more and I tried to get the team to play differently."
There was another question on whether Pazzini and Milito can play together: "I said they can co-exist but I don't know how much time they will spend on the pitch together; we'll see. The penalty came from a move when they linked up so they're certainly capable of playing together."

Ranieri also revealed that "Sneijder won't be coming to Moscow. His injury is worse than first thought."

The coach added that "Inter are at a very high level. We'll get all our players back, put some points on the board and start working our way up to the top of the table. Then we'll be ready to battle it out with the rest of them." :slick:
