It is not surprising that we have not given him any minutes in pre-season.

With Inter, it is all about immediacy. If there is no prospect of a young player playing in the first team right now, there is absolutely no prospect that the club will give him a look in. And that extends to even getting a better look at him to help assess his prospects for the future. The club's approach is shortsighted and limited bordering on incompetence.

And then we wonder why the likes of Zaniolo take off when they go to other clubs: because we could not give them the benefit of pre-season minutes to show what they have.

And the worst part about it is that Inter are close to flat broke but they are still nevertheless happy to give 5-6 million severance payments so they can get veteran players off the books without even thinking that a young player could have something to offer.

I understand this criticism but what was that end part with the severance pays? Do you suggest we would have kept Vidal (and Sanchez)?

In no way am I suggesting that we keep the likes of Vidal or Sanchez.

What I was trying to say is that maybe the time has come to try a young player in the Vidal/Sanchez roles rather than get a veteran, pay them alot and then cut them a season or two years later for 5-6 million.

We should have either never bought them to begin with or not have agreed to such ludicrous pay terms. When you look around the continent, we actually offer insane salaries. We are paying Sanchez more than fucking Mohamed Salah was earning before he signed his new contract this month. Does that make any kind of sense to you?

Anyway, this is the Casadei thread. Unless he's just outright abysmal in training it's inexcusable that he hasn't played at all this preseason. Just give the fucking kid 15 minutes here and there.

For all our financial issues we somehow refuse to even TRY to promote our own products.

TBH, the problem with Sanchez was that the only way he'd leave United was to stay on a comparable total level of salary across the contract. It was the only way we could sign him, considering he didnt let United off the hook for a single penny with the severance pay.

With Casadei, its hard to say - like I've said, we need to remember he's a year older than average in the primavera, so that goes some ways to explaining the performances potentially. we've had players who were a year above average before - like Dell'Agnello comes to mind - and the difference at that age can be significant.

It is weird we havent tried him out at all, but to be honest, considering there's basically 9 months age difference between him and Asllani, I suspect the answer is the obvious - he's a *long* way behind where he needs to be to be competing at the first team squad level, and we're better off focusing on integrating asllani

Casadei and Asllani play in different positions. Casadei could have got minutes instead of Gagliardini who offers absolutely nothing to the squad.
And the issue isn't just Casadei and whether he's good enough for Inter, he's too old or whatever.

There's a general problem with the way this club, and this league in general, treats youngsters. You will struggle to find clubs that don't experiment with their academy products during preseasons. With the exception of the match against Lugano, we have barely given minutes to any primavera player or even Agoume. Ever since then, Zanotti played 10 minutes against Lens and that's it. And even that happened because Gosens was injured and Inzaghi had no one to replace transfer listed Lazaro who had started the game. This club simply doesn't trust youngsters and prefers using veterans who are way past their prime or even mediocre experienced players instead.

The club needs to change its approach since we're moving towards a selling club model. We need to create value from our players and we can only do so by developping youngsters.

I dont mean in terms of play style or anything, I mean in terms of where we're going to focus efforts on integrating people

Like I said, there's 9 months that separates Casadei and Asllani, and while I've not seen either play yet, I'd bet there's a gulf of difference in maturity, quality, and potential between them

The sad truth of it is that the raw talent isn't good enough - we need to get better at getting the right qualities and talents to actually drive through to being professional footballers.

If you look at some of the best talents we've produced in recent years, even the ones who left relatively young to develop elsewhere, like Benassi and Biraghi, they arent exactly hitting heights where they'd be useful to us now.

Yeah the age is not a problem like Asllani example shows us.

Our focus is simply different. It doesn't allow have young players who are too raw, who needs to be taught basic things. Focus will change only with the ownership change. We aren't going Milan route with the Zhangs. Our squad is built differently, we hire different type of coaches with different motive.

TBH, our current route isnt unreasonable - get them out on loan and let them show their skills full-time every week at a development club, and if they can make it there, there's a chance they can make it at Inter.

Its a new attempt at something we've been doing for a while, but from where I'm sat we seem to be doing it a bit better now, the guys are actually getting game time on loan. It's in Esposito/Mulatierri/Agoume/Oristiano/Carboni/etc's hands now to show they deserve to be a player at Inter.

Inzaghi is a fkn clown, this Casadei boy would, under Pioli, become next Veratti in 2024.

You are right. But it's not totally up to these players. It's a lot up to the loaner clubs and specially the coaches.

That's why the loan deal structures and all the things we agree with the loan clubs is super important. First loans of Agoume and Esposito weren't successes. They didn't get much playing time and we cannot tell whose fault was that.

You'd rather use Casadei as starter against Lazio to cover SMS than Gagliardini?
People clown gagliardini as if we were still under Conte when he was overutilized. He played a mere 600 mins last season which was his lowest number of mins in the past 5 years or so. He's an okay bench option, as long as he doesn't start.

oh, 100%, but this is where (as I said) i think we're starting to get a bit smarter about it now. From what I can see from last season, at least, our loans at least seemed to be more productive for the players.
