so now it's about cultural heritage? gtfoh man

and whatever though, it's stupid to debate such obvious things. and i'm not American, or live there, just put it there for the fun of it

So please, then, tell me what are you? Document your full heritage and country

You said Balotelli is Ghanian and NOT Italian, so you're the one arguing about cultural heritage. I'm pro-choice.

there are no clear rules about this so people can think whatever they want, it wont change anything. most professional players just want exposure so if there is a possibility to play for a bigger country they are most likely going to take it. its all about personal preference. footballers are gloryseekers as much as the next guy.

then again it doesnt make sense for diego costa to choose for fucking spain when he could have started for brazil

maybe fifa needs to make proper regulations for this...

Uni thats a very great citizen of the world speech, but youre pretty much implying NT football is a joke. I know deep down race, ethnicity, all that jazz, are arbitrary and a lie, but if there is less and less focus on the individual as you mention, and people care less and less about these categorizations then what the hell is the point of international football? You said it yourself you would skip for a bigger team.

You said you dont take pride in other peoples achievements, then why the fuck do you watch sports at all, or why do you support a team?

I know i start to come across as a close minded bigot redneck when i go on and on about ethnicity/blood, but im just saying for people to be passionate about these teams you must have stricter rules, the looser the rules, the less people will care. I.e. Australia is very multicultural, so people dont really give a fuck about nationality as opposed to more homogenous eastern european places.

The more diversity in a team/country you have the less people will give a shit. Its not racism, its a simple fact. If rules arent made stricter then international football will become completely obsolete in the future, as it is already down on that track.

Are you implying that Australians aren't as passionate about representing their country as someone from an eastern European country, for example? Because if you are that's complete shite.

that wasn't even the debate man. look man, Balotelli is from Ghana, end of story. it doesn't matter where he was raised, or what language he speaks, or what country he represents. he will forever be Ghanian, even if 500 years pass, and his grand-grand-grandchildren turn to be white somehow, they will always say "i'm half Ghanian because my grand-grand-grandfather" was Ghanian".

speaking Italian, eating Italian, listening to Italian music or whatever, doesn't make him Italian, it just won't make sense, no matter how intellectually right you explain it. he will forever be a "Ghanian born Italian", because he was born by Ghanian parents, and was raised in Italy. I understand what people mean when they say some players feel English, or Swiss or Italian, but that doesn't make them it. I can feel English, speak English, have and English passport or whatever the fuck, but that won't make me one.

you can't convince anyone with a brain that Balo is Italian, or Zidane French, or Shaqiri is Swiss. they can be "assimilated", live their whole lives in the respective countries, but that won't make them what they're not. it goes way more than that. "assimilated" cause i'm not sure of the right term lol.

There is. If you check the Fifa regulations, you'll see that these players are exercising their decisions well within their rights.

Sadly, some people here are actually looking at it from a blinded moral point of view.

Can we come to a middle ground here....Lets agree that this players have the right to decide who they want to represent.....But lets also agree that making the decision its not only based on "feeling more French than Algerian" to use an example....As Uni eloquently put it this guys can be equally proud of being Algerian and French, we can't question that..... So maybe the decision has other things to look at like playing for a better national team to further their career which is totally fine but we have to acknowledge it.

Also there are thing on the surface here that I don't want to get into but are there and need to be said to understand where Pimpin and others are coming. They are from a part of the world that has seen a lot of ethnic conflict, I don't need to go deeper because everyone knows what I am referring to, not saying they are right to feel the way they do but its a factor.

Fappuccino seems to be coming from another angle which is that nation football is dying which is a fine topic to discuss.

I just want everyone to come together and hold hands. We are the world!! We are the children!!

Wtf.... That's EXACTLY what I'm saying. In Australia people show up to get drunk, act like brazen assholes, they don't give a fuck about football.

Compare that to Eastern Europe, especially the Balkans. In Albania, we have a broken down stadium, stands are falling apart, the field is muddy as fuck, people get absolutely soaked, the team is mediocre. But when the stadium is full, the atmosphere is unfuckingspectacular, something that you'll never see in Australia. The stadium is completely deafening.

In the face of globalization, National Football is dying out. That's not an opinion. It's a fact. Do you have a better suggestion? Either let it die out, or do something. Your choice.

Your insanely wrong Fap. I've been to a number of Oz internationals and I can tell you, it's quite an amazing experience being a part of 95 000 singing the Oz national anthem in an atmosphere that was even better than some big European games.

Your perception is way out I'm sorry.

"I chose the Algerian national team because, even though I was born and grew up in France, I’ve always felt Algerian. My family is happy with my choice. I often go to Algeria and take advantage of this opportunity when I’m with the national team. Everything’s more difficult in Algeria. There are fewer opportunities for young players, and the talented players aren’t developed. But slowly they’re getting there and the country is making progress at a footballing level."

So this taider is good example,,
even he's born in france, grown up and play for their youth team
he's father tunisian and he's brother already play for tunisia NT
but in the end,, he had own choice.. respect..

I don't like the cup tying players.

Like USA calls up all these U20 players who have like 5 pro games in them because they can play for 3-5 different NTs.

but who are you to say a player isn't X or feels something for a certain country. I just don't like when players use a NT to get a better club team. Which is what the US seems to do with smaller Concacaf countries + shit euro prospects from countries that probably wouldn't qualify anyway.

Worst case scenario was a guy who played for Mexico. He was born there because his dad played for one of their clubs. He never lived there think his name was Castillo. He played in Greece but was Uruguayan. He tried to get paid by Greece to accept their NT call up and guess Mexico paid them more. No way he would play with Suarez, Forlan and Cavani in Uruguay. That to me is a piece of shit person.

Then other players.... Colombia has 2 kids who play/played for the US. Both called up and have scored multiple goals before turning 20. David Ferriera kid who basically said he wouldn't make the Colombian team and basically wanted to play with his friends on the US NT (he played for Dallas his dad played last few years in Dallas.) There was another kid Aguedelo this one annoyed me because he seemed to get nationalized way quicker than normal emigrant would just so he can play on their NT. He ended up being shit so what ever but he scored on SNT Italy/Argentina before turning 20.

As long as your family is that it’s fine…..

It’s all these dudes who just pick a nt becuase they ask 1st. If your good enough for multiple teams just fking wait it out. Then decide and not be those u20 guys who played for 2-3 different nts. Then switch at senior level as well
