MAROTTA: ‘TREAT PLAYERS LIKE ACTORS TO RESOLVE FINANCIAL CRISIS’
Inter director Beppe Marotta warns football has to cut down on costs and wages, but has an intriguing solution.

The COVID-19 crisis made clear just how delicate the balancing act is for many football clubs all over the world, with costs spiralling and revenue unable to keep up.

Some clubs are running at a massive loss, including Inter and Juventus, who recently both broke Serie A records for losses in a single season.

“At this moment, on a legal basis, players are considered to be subordinated workers, but if that was changed to consider them in the same way as a movie star or other actor, that would change the situation,” said Marotta.

“In the world of football, the cost of paying workers is well over 65 per cent of revenue. If that was the case at a factory that sells mineral water, for example, the company would go into default.

“This solution of mine would give the authorities an immediate instrument to eliminate many of the problems tied to football.

“If we continue to consider football players as subordinate workers, then this means incredible costs that need to be reduced.”

Many of the financial calculations around football are also inevitably affected by the market, as for example the capital gains investigation fell apart precisely because it was impossible to prove the ‘worth’ of a player. The only way of calculating the worth of a player is what two clubs will agree on at that moment.

A figure who could probably help ease the passage between sport and entertainment is Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis, whose main role is as a movie producer. Indeed, his contracts take far longer to negotiate than most other clubs, as they include image rights and other areas that most clubs tend not to focus on too much.

There are rumours linking Juventus to Marotta.

For some reason, I can not help but think of Brehme spinning around in his swivel chair and shouting with glee!

I think it would be a good way to see if he is still a fuckn cunt Hunchback at heart.

Does not make much sense and TMW are not a reliable source. Why would he go back to a cheating and stealing club that disrespected him? Plus Rubentus are facing unknown penalties.

Marotta himself stated that Inter is going to be his last club to manage. He is aiming for institutional roles in the distant future.

I am very relaxed about him staying and he`s got a contract until 2025.

... or Mausilio.

I will admit on one of our long nights together in headquarters, Lord Marotta and I discussed the possibility of him making the ultimate sacrifice by returning to the hunchbacks. We may yet add a buy-out clause to his contract, given the challenging fiscal environment.

Ok, just in a case he leaves us, who should be next? What you think about Marco Branca?

There must be a reason why he's been unemployed for 8 years. And I can assure you that once Ausilio leaves this club, no one will hire him, just like what happened to Branca.

Branca wasn't really looking for a job and he's not a professional.
He's by no means an Inter legend, but he was around only because it was Inter and Moratti asked him to. It's not like he was hoping to land a job at Fiorentina or Sampdoria and they said no.

Ausilio on the other hand is a professional and he's definitely lined up for a new job if he leaves us.

Don't think he's leaving unless Zhang sells and the new owners aren't ambitious. Even then he might just stay and retire.

Of course Juve will want him -- they must have realized it was him behind their success all along.

No thanks. Branca was terrible when he didn't have money to spend. Silvestre, Taider, Schelotto, Perreira, Kuzmanovic, Gargano etc. Too many to count.

I would go for Andrea Berta or Luis Campos if they become available. Or trying to convince Michael Zorc to come out of retirement. Rummenigge could also be an interesting choice.

Luis Campos would be great but I wonder if his style would work at a big club as Inter. It's different when you work in Monaco or Lille but he has a amazing trackrecord and has spotted some absolute gems.

Lol who would leave PSG. It's the sporting director's dream. Bottomless wallet and almost no domestic competition.

Luis Campos is not even at PSG in an employee contract, he's in some sort of consultant there.
Wouldn't matter, he clearly has the last say at that club and he's already doing a great job. He'll stay there until he's bored.

If you look at the work he has done at other clubs I can't imagine he really enjoys working for PSG. Yeah you got unlimited budget but he was a master to work with an limited budget and spotting ''new wonderkids''. Not try and get the next global superstar, it's way different. He was even linked to Ajax a year ago so that shows that he doesn't care what budget he has but that he wants a challenge.
