Who's our DM if Brozovic is sold? Are we shifting out of the regista system, like how Lazio played with Luis Alberto further up and Leiva being the DM? We got Calhanoglu for the money Brozovic is asking so it's interesting to see what's gonna happen.

Of course we can't let Brozovic go for free. That would be an absolute blunder which would negate everything what we achieved by signing Calhanoglu for free.

Relax, nobody is paying to buy Brozovic. :yao: He is probably trying to tame salary expectations, as the club is working on renewals. Would be dumb not to extend his contract.

Marotta first needs to get rid of players and cut salaries, trying to make some money in the process. Then he knows what the budget for the salaries remain.

Only then we can think of replacements (expect loan + option to buy).

Very sorry for him that Suning blocked the De Paul deal, would have been a smart move for 5 installments of 7m.

Marotta was at the ceremony for the drawing up of the 2021-22 Serie A fixture list in Milan this evening and spoke to DAZN.

He was asked about new Roma coach Mourinho’s comments that “it’s easy to win when you don’t pay the wages” of star players.
“We’ve known Mourinho for a long time, he’s a wily old fox accustomed to provoking and trying to get a reaction from his opponents,” replied Marotta.
“I won’t get drawn into it and it’s up to all of us not to get drawn into the traps that are laid out for us.”

The transfer market is inevitably the central focus now after Achraf Hakimi was sold to PSG.
We start from a squad that won the Scudetto and will 90 per cent be confirmed for this season, so that is a very important foundation to build on.
“We’ll now work to complete the squad in relation to Hakimi’s departure by being creative, as it’s difficult for any club right now to get involved in economically expansive deals.”

Hector Bellerin of Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven talent Denzel Dumfries were proposed as potential Inter signings.
“There are many names, it’s too early to try predicting what will happen now.”

When it comes to the Inter side that won the Serie A title, there are huge question marks over whether Christian Eriksen will be allowed to play in Italy after his cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark and operation to implant a mini-defibrillator.
“We are above all happy to hear he is rediscovering his full health,” noted Marotta.
“As for his return to the field, the situation must be analysed. We hope he can fully rediscover his health and fitness.”

Inter already snapped up a midfielder to replace him, as Hakan Calhanoglu was a free agent after leaving rivals Milan.
“It was not an insult towards Milan, he was just a player who was a free agent. Maybe next time it’ll be Milan who take a player when his contract with Inter expires.”

How many contract extensions for our players did we have under Marotta? Anyone have a list, including the date?

If we exclude the easy ones (Ranocchia, D'Ambrosio, Kolarov) i can only remember Skriniar and Bastoni. I think Skriniar was around the end of 2018/19 season and Bastoni was this summer. Though to be fair with him he also had verbal agreements for the extensions of De Vrij and Lautaro which didn't materialise for different reasons.

Edit: He also extended Icardi before sending him to PSG. Not sure you count him. :D

Bastoni was still in his "junior" contract so that's a no brainer.

There was also Candreva who we extended only to offload a bit after iirc. Was it January of 2020?

D'Ambrosio was a clause trigger, not an agreement to extend the deal. There was a verbal agreement with him since Marotta first arrived that never materialized.

Skriniar was also something that was in the works before Marotta came and thankfully he still stayed despite multiple attempts to ship him away!

Honestly, I'm drawing blanks here. There's just Ranocchia, Candreva and Handanovic that come to mind despite numerous negotiations with agents and players to extend their deals. Skriniar sacked his agent under Marotta's tenure, probably because they were discussing an exit.

Then we have talks with Icardi, Martinez, Brozovic, De Vrij, Asamoah, including D'Ambrosio, that led to nowhere! The three current players will probably leave sometime soon, on a discount(!) and they're all starters.

Rushing to sell Hakimi also doesn't help the case here...

Brozovic and Lautaro extensions are the most crucial ones. Barella is not because he's going to sign anyway.

Brozo the obvious one with free agency looming. Lautaro can force an exit next summer for a too low price if there's no extension this smmer.

Then the next one is obviously De Vrij. I feel he's not forcing any moves, have a feeling he wants to stay, he's comfortable at Inter, but his agent is Raiola. He's gonna use all the tricks if we are at 2022 summer and there hasn't been extension signed.

There's also Skriniar whose contract expires in 2023. If the management want to keep him, they need to start discussions with him too. Though i don't think it would be a huge problem with him. He loves playing for Inter and he wants to stay. He would probably agree to an extension with a small increase.

Yep the beginning of the end is firmly upon us. He will depart I’m sure at the end and nobody can even blame him remotely. You do not sell your best player 2 weeks before the season begins

I suspect that it has more to do with how much money to he's allowed to use from Lukaku's sale than Lukaku's sale itself.

Agree. Marotta is a finance guy and smart one at that. He was also in charge when Juve sold Pogba for world record. The 130 mio is a really big amount for 28 years old, no matter how much we love him. Especially in this covid era. But if marotta dont keen on this deal, probably because he know we would only get small portion of the sale to find replacement. That is a disaster for him as a Sporting Director or CEO or whatever his position is

When is his contract up? Sunning better lock him down if they are staying. Should do the same if they are selling, cause the nice batch of owners will not know a thing either, guaranteed.
