Inter CEO Beppe Marotta feels that last season’s Scudetto triumph was to the great credit of owners Suning.

Speaking at the AIC Gran Gala Del Calcio, as reported by FCInterNews, the executive spoke highly of the work done and the ambition shown by the owners to build the team that won Serie A last campaign.

Inter had gone nine years without winning Serie A going into last season, but the signs had pointed to a team emerging that was strong enough to win the title, especially once Suning took over.

In the season before last, the Nerazzurri missed out on the title by just a point and also reached a Europa League final, and then last campaign they went all the way and won the Scudetto.

Now, the Nerazzurri are once again fighting to win the Serie A title, and the CEO feels that all of this is thanks to the work of Suning.

“We’re very proud of this award,” he said, “the seal on a season that brought us back to winning the Scudetto and above all brought us the kind of glory befitting the tradition and history of this club.”

“It is the result of everyone’s work,” he continued, “of the team that goes on the pitch and of the invisible team, the men and women who supported the team behind the scenes throughout the season.”

“But above all it is the result of the investments, foresight, and vision of the owners that helped us to reach the goal over years,” he concluded.

Is he trying to say that this season's failure to defend it is their fault? 🤔

This guy has the tendency to piss me off with his decisions. His words, I typically agree with...

I hope when we replace him, hopefully backed by a committed ownership, it is with someone who loves Inter and has the club's best interest at heart and not some bureaucrat who treats players like robots.

I worry we will see more players that we would leaving at the end of the season because of the way he's handling everyone.

Beppe Marotta is one of five people who have been tasked with helping to find an agreement between the clubs and the FIGC on the liquidity index rules, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported today by La Gazzetta dello Sport, no agreement was found yesterday in a meeting on this topic.

The new President of Serie A, Lorenzo Casini, has appointed a commission of five members to continue the discussions with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

That group will include Inter CEO Beppe Marotta as well as Lazio’s Claudio Lotito and three other representatives with expertise on the topic.

They will have the task of updating the other clubs on a rule that for many is very concerning but for the FIGC is fundamental to securing the sustainability of Italian football.

The liquidity index is a way of testing a team’s financial stability to ensure they can compete over a season and not go out of business.

Marotta is one of the best football person in the world, and the best in Italy.

Without Marotta, it's no Scudetto. Marotta must be in LGI, i am sure 99% Inter fans agree with me.

Never thought in last 5 years, we win at Anfield against peak Liverpool.

Marotta before the Coppa semi-final:

“It is an important test of how much this team has grown. I hope it will be an advert for Italian football and we’re happy to be playing in a packed house,” Marotta told Mediaset Infinity.

“The Coppa Italia is an important trophy for Inter, because the club has not won it for many years. It’s only right therefore that we try to end that run.

“It is a difficult match against a strong squad, there is the prestige of being here in the semi-final. Although one of the two will be eliminated from the Coppa Italia this evening, they will both fight to the end for the Scudetto.”

The Nerazzurri lost their way during February and March, but have now rediscovered their form with a run of excellent results.

“I think it was something many of the big clubs are struggling with now, which is how to deal with a season with so many big games close together and a certain stress that it causes, especially when there is also international duty. Over the last month it has been much easier to plan and recuperate without midweek commitments.”

Marotta was also asked about the future, as there are reports that after selling Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi, the club will be forced to make more sacrifices this summer.

“We are super concentrated on finishing the season well in the Coppa Italia and Serie A. We’ll talk about the transfer market later on.

“We had a very difficult year, which we overcame thanks to the strength of the club, the talent of the coach and team, the support of the fans.

“These are all components that allow teams to go much further than simply investments.”

For me Marotta is the #1 factor that single-handedly shifted the power balance in Italian football. Watch him build on that ;)

Please don't fuck this up.
I know you are referring to the summer and possible sales. After the Milano derby, selling Lautaro would feel fucking TERRIBLE.

Lautaro is here to stay, signed a long contract because he wants to stay. Management's and coach's job is to use him and the team in a way which brings the best out of Lautaro. He's a very good player but not a super star who can be good in any role and in any team. He still has the "it" factor, more than Lukaku IMO. That's why selling Lukaku for a record fee was a correct move, but selling Lautaro now is not a correct move because the replacement is probably not going to be better.

I don't disagree with you Cafe but if Zhang comes and asks for 60-70m from sales Lautaro will be the first candidate to leave. It really depends on Suning intentions. If last summer becomes the norm, management simply can't keep the team competitive in the long term.

That's the big worry isn't it? Good team chemistry, a core of players that seem to get along, only to be possibly scuttled by financial interests and intentions.

Here`s the full interview :cautious:

MAROTTA ON PLAYERS ASKING TO LEAVE AND INTER FUTURE AMBITIONS

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta warns big stars like Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi will continue to move on because Serie A is seen as ‘transitional,’ while their target next season is a ‘top four finish.’

The Nerazzurri won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana, but finished runners-up to rivals Milan in the Scudetto race, losing out by two points.
There are already reports that Inter must raise €60m from the transfer market this summer, with Alessandro Bastoni the focus of a bidding war between Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Manchester United and more.

Speaking at an event for newspaper Il Mattino, Marotta’s comments did little to reassure Nerazzurri supporters.
“Having 45 years of experience in the world of football, it’s clear that in 2000 we represented the Eldorado of the sport, in terms of financing and success. Many champions came here and saw out their entire careers in Italy, like Diego Armando Maradona.

“Now Serie A is seen as a transitional league, where players arrive and flourish to then move on. We saw the examples last season with Hakimi and Lukaku, who asked to leave.

“We must realise times have changed. In 2000 we had clubs run by rich businessmen who would just write cheques to cover the losses, whereas in England they worked on getting more resources and increasing the value of the product. After 20 years of that approach, the value of the Premier League has given them a four to one advantage over Serie A.

“We missed out because our Presidents and managers lacked long-term vision and the gap has now been created that is difficult to bridge.
“Another problem is that in Italy we don’t have a Minister for Sport, it is something shared with other portfolios. Talents get away because nobody is identifying them at the school level.”

Marotta outlined Inter’s need for ‘sustainability’ and the reduction of costs, so with that in mind, he would not promise another Scudetto push.
“Let’s not forget our objective is to be in the top four who qualify for the Champions League, because that is where many millions are earned that help us run the club.”
Sounds like another painful summer... fucking ownership!

Don't have one.
Great, now let's not pretend anymore that we are this big club who has to win trophies, like zhang and everybody who is in and out of the club is saying. Sell that one fucker we need to sell, bring all our youth players and give them a chance, get rid of players on fat contracts like dzeko, vidal, alexis and even say no to dybala, who we need to "win trophies" and with a lot of humility start the next season.

I would respect the fuck out of them if they actually do this or be this sincere to the fans. This little play of we are big club who needs to win trophies and at the same time has to sell their best players every summer isn't fooling anyone anymore, and I'm sick of it.

I don’t have a problem with Marotta’s comments. Lukaku and Hakimi were expensive acquisitions that were sold for a gain and overall was good business.

My problem is when the club purchases past their prime players for big salaries and then Marotta comes out and says this shit is unsustainable.

Which player? The grandpas came nearly free. The salaries indeed are big.
