It really is about that.

When Pavard joined Bayern Kovac started using him as a cb with Kimmich as a rb. But once Kimmich was moved to midfield Pavard became Bayern's starting rb.

This continued under Flick which frustrated Pavard and he was promised he would finally play as a cb when Nagelsmann was hired. But he didn't play as a cb under Nagelsmann either.

Nagelsmann had requested a rwb, Brazzo was obsessed with Dest who ended up at Barcelona and in the end he gave Bouna Sarr to the coach as consolation prize who wasn't Bayern material. So Pavard found himself playing as rb once again.

On paper it looked like 3-4-3 with Pavard playing as rcb and a winger in front of him (usually Gnabry) but in reality it switched to a hybrid 4-4-2 when Bayern were in attack.

In the following season Bayern signed Mazraoui so they can play a natural fullback on the wing and move Pavard to cb. At first Nagelsmann didn't rate him so Pavard found himself playing as a rb again. In time Mazraoui got consistent playing time but then he had health issues. That was the reason Bayern brought Cancelo in January in the first place. That was the only period Pavard played consistently as a cb. But then Nagelsmann got fired and Tuchel switched to a back 4. Tuchel used Pavard both as rb and cb and experimented a lot in order to find the best lineup for the squad.

But Bundesliga is starting tonight with Bayern playing at Weserstadion and guess who's expected to be Bayern starting rb. Benjamin Pavard

Pavard has never really got into a serious discussion wih Bayern about a new contract. It isn't about finances. He's just tired of broken promises. And that's why he wants to leave.
Wow they really tried hard to piss him off.

We still have good relations with Bayern, don't we? hopefully we get the upper hand on this one over other clubs, and hopefully we do pay this time. You pay, you get players like Pavard. You don't pay, you end up with players like Arnautovic.

Defence has been heavily weakened this summer so the club needs to make it up.

After that huge list of failed targets, they need to land the best possible option which is Pavard.

This is happening simply because Inter cannot afford to go wrong with the Skriniar replacement.

Directors played the waiting game to show Bayern that nobody else is buying Pavard so they can low-ball as much as possible.

We are banking on the fact that Pavard wouldn't want to go to United. Now let's just hope no other club comes up.

Maybe this is why we were so nice to Bayern waiting for Sommer as long as Bayern wanted us to. But we still need to close this before some idiot club pays actual money to Manchester United for Maguire

Sommer/Audero
Pavard/Darmian - Acerbi/SDV - Bastoni/Bisseck
Cuadrado/Dumfries - Barella/Sensi - Hakan/Asllani - Frattesi/Miki - Dimarco/Augusto
Arnautovic/Thuram - Lautaro/NotCorrea

This seems serviceable

Attack is a disaster , goalkeepers are suspect , medfield is good but I am worried about depth since Sensi is unreliable and I don't know what we can expect from Asllani if Hakan goes down with injury

GK position still looks terrible though. Might be our Archilles heel.

Give me Pavard and Gnonto for Correa and I’ll start believing in big big things. Pavard would be massive for this squad. Obviously not the monster at the back as Skriniar was, but a very very good defender with a fantastic Bastonesque skillset and even better shot, positioning, heading ability, etc. Also proven winner and not a flashy, spectacular guy, rather a quiet leader.

He’s been Bayern‘s most consistent player last season and no coach would even think of letting him go, which is why Tuchel downplays the whole thing.

If you ask me, Pavard is considerably better as a RCB than Skriniar, whereas Skriniar is better as a CB in a four man line.

If we still had Onana, with Pavard our ability to play from the back would be seriously erection inducing. Oh well.

A stupid question: Pavard doesn’t want to play as RB or RCB?
